You can do better than xplan. I spent months looking thru autotrader trying to find the perfect truck....I didn't so ordered it. What I found was when you look thru them you see the certain dealers that heavily discount and advertise it. So when I gave up trying to find exactly what I wanted, I decided to order it custom. Like many, I wasn't sure I would get a very good deal but the dealer that seemed to have the most heavily discounted prices, and was proud of it, said sure...send me what you want and we'll give you the price.....Yeah we'll give you the same discount we give every truck on th lot. It ended up being $3050 under invoice(about 4.8% under) plus I'll get the extra incentives of that month at delivery on top(ETA 10/23). I will say that I live in the Dallas area and there are a lot of dealerships to choose from, selling a lot of trucks, but my dealer said they have folks come from all over to pick up trucks from them.
Do you mind me asking what dealership? Dallas is only about 5 hours from here.
xplan is below invoice on anything over $60,000 because your fees are limited to $100. So unless you are going to get them to dip into holdback which frankly many won't, xplan IS a good deal
plus if you are doing a trade, it tells you exactly what they are giving you for it since they can't fudge xplan numbers.
Whos the dealer in Dallas, my kids live in DFW and I live in Utah.
Will be there for Thanksgiving!
It's Holiday Ford in Whitesboro....it's very far north Texas...Lake Texoma/Red River area. You can do the deal over the phone with a $1000 deposit. I have not picked my truck yet so can't comment on the overall experience but I have followed my truck thru the process. If the ETA they gave me is correct it'll have been about 9 weeks from when I ordered from dealer.
When you are negotiating the price of the truck (without X-Plan) and the price of your trade, you never really know what they are giving you on trade. They could be saying they are giving you 31k on trade and selling you your new truck for 71k costing you 40k out the door when in fact they are selling you the new truck for 70k and giving you 30k on trade. (Or vice versa.) They can take money from one side of the deal to make the other side work. You just never know. If your satisfied with the outcome, it doesn't matter how they got there but if you want 30k on trade and want the truck at invoice too, you might not get there.
The PCO has a clock attached from the time it is issued. You only have so long before it expires. So, if ordering, it's best to request it about 4 weeks or so into the process so it will still be valid when the truck comes in.

It's tricky... When I bought my truck, one would request a printed brochure and the PCO would be on the inside of the back flap. That worked most of the time but it wasn't guaranteed. Not sure if that still works. Other times, an offer will just pop up while you browse Ford's site.

This is VERY true. And the dealer is an expert, with a lot of practice, navigating this maze.
So...change the rules! Negotiate a cash deal, no trade. Once happy, tell the dealer you decided you want to trade-in your old vehicle. Now you'll have a much better idea how much you're paying for the new, and how much you're getting for the old.
