So, I am trying to figure out the best option for ordering a new F-250 2018. I have access to the X-Plan from Ford but not sure how it all works. Can you negotiate better pricing on an order or is it better to just use the pin. Also, do they need it at order or when I actually take delivery. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I can get a good deal on a Lariat 2017, its close but doesn't have everything.
X-Plan is not above invoice. It's .4% below invoice plus a $275 admin fee. It also caps doc fees to $100 which could save you some money. Can you do better? It depends on what market you live in. In my region there isn't a Ford dealer in the land who won't show you the door when you try to get to invoice on your own. In other regions, dealers start at invoice and go down from there and eat into their 3% holdback to get the deal done. Every area is different. Here is a link to tell you all the details of X-Plan pricing.
Here is a link to build and price at X-Plan pricing so you know your cost. If you don't know your X-Plan partner code to log in, use EAA01. Follow the links until you get to build and price.
I've used X-Plan to order my last two trucks and love the simplicity of it. When trading, it also helps to eliminate crossover when doing two negotiations at once.

.04% on a $70K truck is $280. Add in the $275 admin fee and it is near invoice. On a lesser priced truck the .4% discount will be less than $275 add on.
I sent emails out to five different dealers requesting a bid for a truck with the exact options, and option codes, that I wanted. All came back below invoice, except the dealer I walked into the fleet sales office. He was the highest. The dealer I bought several vehicles from in the past was the worst.
Good for you. As I said, every region is different. I contacted 4 dealers in my area and none would come close to invoice. And X-Plan is below invoice as I also said. Most well equipped trucks are well over 70k so even with the admin fee, you're under invoice. You also save good money on doc fees which are generally $300-600. That savings will put you below invoice on any price SD..... but who really cares about $100 either way on something over 70k? We're really working to split hairs aren't we... LOL...
X-Plan is slightly above invoice pricing. You can do better.
xplan is below invoice on anything over $60,000 because your fees are limited to $100. So unless you are going to get them to dip into holdback which frankly many won't, xplan IS a good deal
plus if you are doing a trade, it tells you exactly what they are giving you for it since they can't fudge xplan numbers.
There are two very simple ways to get X-Plan without working for a Ford Partner company. Join the EAA (Experimental Aircraft Association) or the MCA (Mustang Club of America). $40 and $30 respectively. Members of either can generate their own X-Plan pin.

I’m getting ready to buy here within the next week or so. Does it require you to be a member for a certain amount of time first? I know the AQHA rebate has a two month membership requirement.
EAA has a minimum but the first time I used them to get a PIN, I joined and generated my PIN the same day. I assume nothing has changed. It's really up to the dealer to enforce that and they generally don't check the term of your membership. Some do though as if they get audited, it can come back to them. For $40, it's worth a shot.

You can do better than xplan. I spent months looking thru autotrader trying to find the perfect truck....I didn't so ordered it. What I found was when you look thru them you see the certain dealers that heavily discount and advertise it. So when I gave up trying to find exactly what I wanted, I decided to order it custom. Like many, I wasn't sure I would get a very good deal but the dealer that seemed to have the most heavily discounted prices, and was proud of it, said sure...send me what you want and we'll give you the price.....Yeah we'll give you the same discount we give every truck on th lot. It ended up being $3050 under invoice(about 4.8% under) plus I'll get the extra incentives of that month at delivery on top(ETA 10/23). I will say that I live in the Dallas area and there are a lot of dealerships to choose from, selling a lot of trucks, but my dealer said they have folks come from all over to pick up trucks from them.
