Looks like one of those fancy overpriced MSD distributors or the like. General motors style HEI setup. Only parts I'd give it would be the dumpster, then put the ford duraspark system back in.
But to answer your question, I'd bet it's an MSD distributor.
What you have is an aftermarket HEI- GM style distributor. It is produced by a couple of manufacturers.
There is an STAMPING I.D. on the bowl. You can try to cross it by going to the manufacturer(s) websites. You may see more info by removing the cap.
The resistance you are experiencing is that it is a GM system and most here have no use for the system. Nothing personal.
I just recently purchased the truck, and have no use for a GM distributor either. Just didn't know anything on it. But looks like I need to replace the engine, so will replace distributor as well. Orielly Reman engines a good buy?
