Let me add to this.
I have an 05. ordered in the MileMarker 449SS hubs
The inner splines for the stub axle fit. The outer splines on my hub are more fine than the mile marker hub.
Now that is a problem......
No they don't, the factory ones and others have plastic, as I think do the Warn standard sets. The Mile Marker has another issue, which is that under load they will disengage due to the design and the spring weakness. Ask around. If they haven't failed, they don't do anything serious with them. Carry a spare.
Have you tried clocking them to different positions in the hub. I do remember mine were tight going in but weren't too bad. There should be a sweet spot where it slides together.
Bringing this back up because I ordered the MM 449SS locking hubs for my 2005, thinking they would work. The splines apprear different as pictured above. I didn't go crazy trying to install, but it certainly didn;t slide right in.
As stated, the correct hub for an 05 Ex is the same hub as an 99-04 Super Duty truck. This is the standard 30 spline Dana 60 hub that fits all Ford/Chevy/Dodge Dana 60 front axles from at least 1978 on. The 05-up Super Duty style is shallower/different spline, etc as pictured above...
Yes, I understand that. MM has the 449SS listed for 2000-2004 Excursion, which is what I ordered and received. It should fit my 2005 by your logic. The OEM splines appear different than what I received.
Are you implying that the wrong part is in the box? See below for image of box part number and compatibility.
I know this is an old thread, but I just came into possession of a 2005 XLT, 91,000 miles, no rust, one owner, California eX.. The drivers side hub is not functional, or at least the ****/handle, won't turn. I have not actually tried 4x4 yet, just drove it home 2,400 miles towing a 1948 Buick.. BUT.. if I decide to switch to Warn manual hubs, where do I go to block off, or cap the vacuum line/actuator? I don't care about having the auto function, I grew up a long time ago in a time when it was ALL manual.. LOL But I do care about having reliable 4x4 and hubs..
You can just follow the line up from the hub and remove and put a cap on. 1/8 pipe thread if I remember correctly for the plug on the hub. One could take the whole system out all the way to the vac “tank”, but I didn’t find it necessary.
