2005 Locking Hubs

Does anyone make a manual hub replacement for this year. I have a very heavy Travel trailer and want the option of using low range for backing and maneuvering without having the front end engaged on solid surfaces.

Both Mile marker and Warn (as well as some others) make replacement manual locking hubs for our rigs. If you are otherwise happy with your factory auto hubs and they are still functioning well you can mod their function with a switch and relay to do exactly what you are wanting to do. I just keep my vacuum switch under the hood unplugged to allow me to reverse our heavy TT in low range 2WD.
Here are a couple of how-tos on the subject:

I can find replacements up to 2004 models, but can't find any for 2005 except the vacuum style. If I understand what your saying you just disconnect the vacuum going to the hubs and that makes them always unlocked in the auto position and then when you want 4x4 you manually engage them using the lock position?
Thanks for the reply.

Well my personal situation is that I currently have mis-matched ratios front and rear (3.73/4.88). So no 4X4 for me right now, to protect the drivetrain I keep the vacuum/electrical switch under the hood on the passenger side fender unplugged to prevent front hub engagement and binding. Don't just unhook the vacuum lines to the hubs as that will lead to vacuum leaks when you throw the dash switch. I like the switch and relay option listed above, when I finish my front axle swap I will be doing that mod to keep the 2WD Low option easily available.
The manual hubs listed for the '04 EX will work perfectly fine on the '05 as well. many parts vendors get crossed up with the EXs remaining the same in '05 vs how the trucks saw big changes in '05. Many times searching for '04 parts will net you better results for parts for the '05 EX.

Warn 38826 is the premium part number all metal construction and lifetime warranty. Just found a set for 220 including shipping and installed them. They list much higher but if you're not in a hurry you'll find a deal. They're 31 spline. Took less than 20 minutes literally, taking my time. Remember to address the vacuum lines. I removed mine and blocked them off, though Tom's idea may make more sense if you have good lines in place.

Yes, I understood the vacuum line would have to be plugged. I actually called warn tech support directly and they stated their '04 hub would not work on the '05. You would think if it was a matter of thinking the ex changed with the trucks then they would simply be showing the '05 truck part number for the ex, but I can't find any part number at all for the '05 other than factory style replacement. Tom,I am a lurker on a lot of your posts as your ex. is close to what I would like to do with mine and they are similar being the v-10.. Currently considering a lift and regearing.

Thanks, like I said earlier though, many, many vendors really get confused by the '05 EX as it is a bit of an oddball, but only in the sense that I it didn't change in '05 when the vast majority of it's cousin pickups did.
ANY parts for an '04 will work on an '05 with the exception of the updated front bumper/grille/headlights that the '05 did get.
The '05 is just an '04 with a facelift.

I'm on the same page as Tom as to fitment. For example if you call them and tell them you have an 05 F250 and ask for the part number for that application I will bet on it it's the one I gave you...31 spline. Mine is an 03 for the record. If you get them from Amazon (prime), just return them if you have any issues. ...free returns. They make another version that's a little less expensive but it's not all metal construction. I know I was told to avoid Mile Marker, though I'm sure some guys here will swear by them. The part number I gave you is the premium and they're rated for a 1 ton truck. Pretty sure they will last a long time and are well backed.

The old 2005 Excursion part debacle. A lot of vendors don't have it right and a lot of tech line people are just reading from a screen. I am one of the happy Mile Marker SS users. If I was doing any serious offroading, I might be worried, but the 4 or 5 times per year I engage them (snow, someone's soggy field, etc) they are fine. It is really neat to have 2wd low range for backing heavy trailers up inclines without worrying about smoking the trans.

Got my new hubs installed! Have already made use of 4low without being engaged when we took the camper to the races this past weekend. Thanks for the help!

Just a followup on the frontend facelift. I have searched and I am still not sure exactly how they changed. My specific question is I have found a Fab Four Elite bumper for a 99-04. What differences would I encounter when trying to fit this on my '05.

I think it will have extra space between the grille and bumper, not sure if the headlights will have any extra room also, but I don't think so. In '05 the bumper shape was changed as well as the grille, older rigs can retrofit the '05 (-'07) grille by trimming about an inch and a half off the bottom.
