A Dodo bird....really? If you think you used to be a dodo bird .... then I think "dodo" still fits. you don't think it was possible that the environment changed enought the dodo couldn't make it anymore? Its hard to even type this without cracking up.....
fisher,
I think you misread this, he not saying humans evolved from Dodo birds, quite frankly, I'm not sure how you arrived at that conclusion. I'm cracking up myself.
He's referring to the fact that the Dodo evolved into large, flightless birds that had no means of escaping from or defending themselves against predation, thus they were easily wiped out by man.
These little birds are a great way to demonstrate the principle of evolution/natural selection. Islands in general as Darwin found
compress the whole business down to a managable size.
We do realize Darwin rejected evolution and accepted Jesus into his life before he did right?
The above link has a bunch of creation vs. evolution things that are pretty interesting. Talks about the flood, age of the Earth, so on...
Just click on the links to the left.
ALSO, it has a pole of who believes in creation, evolution, or neither. I think you'll be surprised.
ok blu & waxy...I apologize...I have no doubt that both man and the animals that inhabit the earth and seas have changed a bit since the beginning of time. I agree that there is some scientific backing to show that animals have adapted somewhat since their creation to survive as a species. I DON"T however think that man ever came from a monkey or anything like that... I think that this post has gotten kind of messed up. I think some of the posters are refering to adaptation and not evolution. I am a firm believer that animals have adapted to different surroundings and because of those surroundings they might have changed "somewhat" to meet that adaptation. But as far as beyond that, I don't think so.
I've taken up the stance that evolution exists today for no other reason than scientific evidence points to it.
So don't go out of your way to personally prove me wrong because I just took the stance that the data don't lie. Prove the data wrong and that would make things interesting.
-- Who ever mentioned the 2nd law of therm -->read up on activation energy -
"the second law of thermodynamics favors the formation of the majority of all known complex and ordered chemical compounds directly from their simpler elements. Thus, contrary to popular opinion, the second law does not dictate the decrease of ordered structure in its predictions, it only demands a "spreading out" of energy in all processes."
The popular opinion part is intended to reference non-chemists or people with no or little science background. Once again its just science stuff...you can spend a long time on the 2nd law. I ain't going there -- definitely not in a non-technical fashion.

If a bird's beak changes for its enviroment is that evolution? Or can we discount that as augmentation...just sort of grew because it needed to. I don't know...maybe I can get a government agency to employ me to collect some data...I'll need a bb gun with a scope.

God made man in His own image, He gave us a choice to follow Him or to not follow Him, God sent his son Jesus Christ to this earth to make a way for us to be with God forever in heaven, Jesus did not die for monkeys, Jesus Died and Lives for us.
This topic is "What We Believe"? I appreciate you being alittle more specific in your answer blu and I also understand how to search the internet. The idea that there is a supreme entity with a master plan that has been here forever and created everything we see around us is a very difficult concept to understand or even grasp for many people just as the concept that matter and energy have been here forever and that life of any kind is from a random set of circumstances. Man or intelligent mankind has been here for a releativly very short time and has a very limited understanding of how the world around us works. I certainly cannot give concrete evidence to prove creationism yet its what I believe but there are enough gaps in evolution that it also requires a leap of faith to accept. Science pionts to evolution as blu put it. Iwas not trying to imply that I don't have any understanding science or evolution or natural selection just that science has not proven evolution. If it science had it would be just that simple. I have had a strong desire to understand the world around me. I go to museums and science centers, I read books and do personal research to gain a better understanding. The more I learn the more I realize I need to learn more to have better understanding of something. When I look at the complexity of living organisms you say science proves evolution and I say science proves a creator with a master plan and not random circumstances. JCPSME
I haven't read all of the posts yet, just some of the first ones. But here's what I believe in... I believe in science. I too can't believe that a higher power just snapped his fingers and BAM, there is everything as we know it. Theres just no hard facts to back that up, like there is with science. Just what I think.
I came to find some information on a 6.9 engine and found this thread. As I read these 3 or 4 pages I remembered an idea someone once mentioned to me. It's point may have been demonstrated here.
Question: What would happen if you chose 10 authors from the same city, with the same culture, same educatioinal level, speaking the same language to write book about a controversial topic, such as the meaning of life. Would they be in agreement?
You deside. The Bible was written over a period of 1500 years, there's 66 books, about 40 authors from 3 continents (Europe, Asia, Africa), in 3 languages (Hebrew, Greek, Aramaic) all with one basic theme.
I once heard that carbon dating dated a live snail at 300 years old!! Creatures can adapt to their surroundings to a certain extent. (Like, the eskimos (sp) short people.) But that's not evolution. There are two different kinds of evolution, I heard someone on a radio program say- macro and micro evolution. They are different. Only micro (or is it macro- I'm getting them confused) evlution has been proved- that's minor changes... nothing changed fundumentally. Macro evolution (evolution from one.... "organizm" shall we say..) has NOT been proved. Also I think it's silly to think that dinosaur fossils could be around for 60 million years.... seems very silly to me.
...WOW...some intense debating around here...Tell ya what I believe...I believe I'll have another BEER...
have a good weekend and happy birthday to me...
I believe there is a god. I think everyone deep down knows that there is a god. people can swear they don't, but I don't believe them. in my mind it seems impossible that there was a big bang and earth and a cell appeared. and we transformed from other things. it just leaves too many gaps. there are things I believe people are not meant to know. where the universe ends, what our fates are or if there even is such a thing. if you committed suicide today it wouldn't change anything. you'd be forgotten in a couple of years by almost everyone. people would still be hypocrites fighting in "religious wars". most people don't believe and worship god until they get into some kind of trouble where the situation is out of their hands. like before an old man dies he suddenly becomes religious, happens all of the time. it's fear. I do believe in god, but I don't obsess on the fact. i'm gonna live my life and not concentrate on the fact. god put us here to live a life. why I don't know but I think he is powerfull and end everything at anytime. most are on this earth usually at the longest 100 years thats nothing compared to an eternity. but I'm not going to obsess and support some none working preaching child molesting preist every sunday.
