Come on, I mean really.

Are aliens among us too? When was the last time you talked to Elvis? Are Spock and Captain Kirk on their way back to Earth as we speak?

Am I making fun of that website and anyone who takes it as reality? You're darn right I am.

These are not facts guys, they have no basis in reality.

Ahhhhh, the internet. Ask, and ye shall receive.

For a fee, Elvis will marry you in Las Vegas or sing at your party.

That's about as much reality as many belief systems offer. I too find the ark story a little difficult to comprehend. That would be a BIG ship.

Arguing belief systems is about as fruitful as fishing in a toilet. Those who have them swear by them, condemm others as pagan (where did that brotherly love go) or non-believers as fools. Lots of wars over religion.

There are NO pterodactyls flying around in the world true4.2, I have no idea where you got that notion. Let's stick to facts.
I just showed you a web site that had eye witness accounts, newspaper clippings and photos. I guess you won't be happy till one comes swooping out of the sky and eats your butt.

There are also arguements about the size of the ark and the animals, but it really is pointless to make them.

the funny thing about the theory of evolution is just that--------it's a theory. NOT A FACT. A theory does not become fact until it is PROVEN. Unless I'm mistaken, it's still called the THEORY of evolution. =)

Waxy:

Well, I just know what I believe and stick to it. I could say the same thing about you. I don't even know you, but I can see that you're an intelligent individual when you want to be. You seem to know what you believe and no one needs to show you the right path. That, in its simplest form, is admirable.

You're absolutely right about 1 thing. I could never prove to you that God created the world. For some people, the only thing that could prove God's reality is for God to actually show up and say -Here I am. I am the Alpha and Omega, and I am the creator.-

A person can't prove a negative, but maybe one day the negative will prove itself. I very much enjoyed this. Thanks.

Vantastic:

I think you just proved your IQ also.
P.S. - not in a good way either

I will never cease to be amazed at the way otherwise sane, rational people can be coerced into believing that the most RIDICULOUS stories/ideas are true, simply because their parents told them so or because it is written in some old book (which was written by PEOPLE).
You think I believe the Bible because my parents told me about it? You have no clue who I am and why I believe, so who are you to reply to this thread? If you can't say something without a valid argument, don't say it. Can you prove it never happened Van? No, you can't. You could never prove it never happened. But there is much evidence supporting that it did happen isn't there. I think you should stop to think about what you have to say before you make yourself look, as you call it, RIDICULOUS!

What we believe

Christianity is one of the many large contemporary belief systems that worships an unknown being, as interpreted by a series of prophets and put into print over a period of time. As with other recorded and editorialized testimonials within other belief systems, the bible has taken on its own form of reverence.

The New Testament has always reminded me of a device used to bind a faith that was undergoing persecution, where the holy men decided they needed a tangible worship figure and a martr fit the time, place and circumstances. Not surprisingly, it has its own group of followers.

Other than particulars and its lack of acceptance of other formalized belief systems, I find christianity little different in concept than the multitude of other belief systems, large, small, old or new. A central figure, the carrot and the stick all play equally important parts in the rituals.

"the funny thing"

That’s not funny.

--
...From completely understanding the mechanisms (theory) by which evolution (fact) occurred.
- a borrowed fragment of a sentence
--

The theory part in "Theory of evolution" applies to the process by which evolution occurrs. Not whether or not evolution is part of earths history that’s a fact - scientifically proven fact. If someone wants to say a higher power flips the switch or a chemical/environmental trigger makes it happen...yeeha.

Take that same statement and apply it to the big bang theory. Its fact (not theory) that the universe is expanding out radially(3D).The theory part applies to the post and pre moments(big bang) - not whether or not the bing bang occurred.

The theory behind oil lubricated bearings, is not a hypothesis that oil lubricated bearings exist - its a fact lubrication takes place with the presence of oil in the bearing the physics behind it is the theory (science).

A good read that came out this year is "The DaVinci Code". Touches on a little bit of this subject matter in a fictional setting.

The last flying pterodactyl is about to pass out my exhaust pipe in T-11 minutes.

What we believe

I must believe in God, though I consider most religion to be myths. The reason I must believe in God is a scientific fact that cannot be denied - nothing comes from nothing. If you could go back far enough eventually you will reach nothing and require a creator. I'd like to believe that this life is not my only shot, but since I don't know, I'm going to treat my life like a one shot deal. Do I believe that all events are a part of "God's plan"? No.
I try to stay away from any argument regarding religion because it is such a personal thing. My wife and kids are in church each Sunday and I am glad that they find comfort there but I quit long ago when I faced the fact that I did not believe what was being preached. I have read the Bible, the Koran, parts of the Talmud and many books on religion but I do not find divinity in the words.

Dono,

I'm not convinced if you go back far enough you will reach nothing.

Our minds have trouble conceiving of forever but it's likely that prior to the Big Bang there was a previous universe that may have contracted to a size so small it triggered the Big Bang.
And one before that and so on and so on.

And then again maybe not.

One things for sure IMO if energy cannot be created or destroyed it must have been around in one form or another forever.

Even forever has a beginning. I find it really hard to believe that the universe was around, contracted and then bang it exploded again. Who set it in motion? Ever drop a plumb line? if it starts swinging it goes and goes until it loses momentum. Then it needs to be restarted (like the pendalum in a clock.) Who started the "pendalum" swinging? If the universe alwayes exsisted, Which I believe it did, then who or what created it? Like Dono said only nothing comes from nothing. I'm remimded of an old story about a scientist who took 2 sanitized jars, he took a slab of meat and cut 2 pieces off, placed one piece in each jar. He then covered one with cheesecloth so air could get in but nothing else, and left the other open. The one with the cheescloth did nothing. Only things found on the meat were the strands of bacteria that were already in the meat. Even after a year or so. (TBC.......)

My point was that maybe it didn't come from anywhere, was always there/here.

As far as who started it, I can't go there without accepting a premise I don't accept.

Who like Why are questions that need not apply.

Sinjin - The universe cycle you mention (expanding and collapsing of the universe on itself) many physicists believe this will be proven in the near future. Discovery magazine has an article outlining the underlying theory with a little real world data that may support the claim in this months issue.

One reason to understand it all accurately -- is to someday many, many generations from now answer the following questions does another earth like planet exists, can we travel to it and will there be a frosty beverage served by a Nordic goddesses or a talking frog when we get there?

I'd hate to have my off spring travel a hundred light years to be eaten by an over evolved toad.

(Sorry for interrupting your discussion but I'm forced to work late due to technical difficulties)

If I spent enough time on Google, I could probably come up with eyewitness accounts & photos of Sasquatch & Elvis together doing the waltz.

It took me 1 minute to find the site I mentioned. Okay, the clock is ticking, go find the Elvis Sasquatch sites.
