I finally finished installing my new (correct) bumper. My '59 came to me with a flat, iron '57-'58 and I bought the correct (and shiny!) bumper for my truck.

But there was a problem-no bumper brackets! Thanks to NumberDummy I bought what may be the last NOS bracket in the continental U.S. Thing is-you need to have a bracket on each of the frame horns.

I bought the driver's side and had a mirror image bracket made for the passenger's side. Lots of cutting and filing and fitting and removing later, I have the bumper mounted.

It isn't quite right, though. The fabricated bracket doesn't quite line up and causes the corner of the bumper to turn down slightly.

Does ANYBODY on the forum have a bumper bracket that you'd be wiling to part with? I'd buy both if you have them and don't want to split up a pair.

I suggest spending a little time and getting on Craigslist to do a random city search over the entire US in the auto parts section. Use key words f100 and f-100. I've been doing this for a while now and have found all kinds of stuff for my 59. Some are willing to ship and some are not. Some don't even reply at all but that's the nature of people on the net.
There are some parts houses in California that advertise on Craigslist that I'm sure may have front bumper brackets. I happen to score a pair of vintage rear brackets last week for $30.

Believe me when I tell you that I've searched nationwide-salvage yards, Hemmings, this lead and that. Like Walston said, they ARE as scarce as hen's teeth!

I had the front tab cut off and re-welded to be more square with the top tab. That resulted in the mounting hole for the front bolt needing another 1/8 inch cut, chipped and filed to match the bumper opening.

The good news is I think I can take the entire bumper off and put it back on in less than 15 minutes as long as I'm not filing the front tab mount!

Thanks, guys. I may have to live with the slight droop (not really visible in the picture). The truck is 58 years old, after all. There are some things that aren't perfect!

 

I looked a 59 parts truck yesterday, going to look at a 60 today. What are those things worth? It might help me decide what to pay. Can you show a picture of them? Pretty sure they are different on my 4x4.

 

I'm gonna throw out a couple of feelers out there and try to find some for you. Give me a week or so.

Willowbilly, I paid $41 including shipping for the one NOS bracket. I got it at McDonald Obsolete Parts in Rockport, Indiana. the rub is that his computer showed he had both sides in stock, but the left side was not in it's bin. the part number that I need is 17980-the right hand (pass) side.

Not definitely positive yet! He just told me he's sure he has them but has to put his hands on them to confirm. They're somewhere in his shop. I'll post again either way
