My truck, a 1962 F100 4x4 VIN shows it came with an 8 cyl but someone has put a 6 cyl in it. The "kid" said a 300 which would be great but it could be a 262. There is a C behind the exhaust outlet which I think means 60s, but how can I positively tell the size? Measuring the stroke or what? Thanks. BTW reason I ask if my water pump is fixing to go out. Also, I already know it has a 64-65 bed and grille.

The 4th digit of the VIN is the engine code: C = 292 2V; J = 223 1V I-6.
B = 262 1V I-6 but this engine was only available as a Domestic Special Order for 1961/62 F100/250's.
223/262: Intake/Exhaust manifolds located on the left (drivers) side of the engine.
240/300 (introduced 1965): Intake/Exhaust manifolds located on the right (passenger) side of the engine.
Thank you ND. It originally came with a 292 but since it was changed, and according to your info, the kid was correct. The intake and exhaust are on the passenger side. I think it's a 300. Much oblige my friend.
