Unhappy oil coming from my dip stick tube

1972 302
Thought I had a leaky distributor o-ring. replaced it. Ltill leaked. Replaced intake gaskets and end seals. Helped alot. Truck jumped time, so new timing chain and fresh gaskets on the front of the motor. It now is rather apparent to me that I have oil blowing out of my dipstick tube. I have a set of mustang valve covers with out a PCV system, but it pulls constant vacuume through a hose i put on there (its pulling 15-20 at idle and 20-25 cruise). It also has a new oil fill cap- the newer style that clicks like a gas cap. The only idea I have is excessive blow by, but i dont think that that would cause as much oil to go all the way up the dip stick tube. any ideas?

With no PCV system, the internal pressure caused by any blow-by will have to escape somewhere. If the valve covers are sealed, the next weakest place would be the dipstick tube. Blowing out the seals is next.
Hook up the PCV.

I have a vacuume line pulling constant vacuume on the crankcase. There is a spout on the oil fill, and I have the original PCV hook up running to this, so the crankcase is under vacuume.

Does it also have some kind of breather to where it can get fresh air in? it has to make a "loop".

the drivers side valve cover is sealed up, one solid piece of aluminum, like the originals were so I guess that that would be a no, but the dipstick tube has a little vacuume on it. I *hope* this is where the massive amounts of oil are coming from. I know its not coming from the TCC, valve covers, and am pretty sure the it wouldn't be coming from the head. Its all over the hood and inner fenderwell and a little on top of the valve cover. And my hood flew open again today, so all of the oil that would get stopped by the hood will now end up on my windsheild. Guess its a good time to watch it.

Without a vent in the other valve cover (or in some older engines, the breather canister in the back of the intake) when the blow-by exceeds what the PCV can pull in, you get pressure. At idle, sitting in the driveway you might have negative pressure but when you get it out on the road and put a load on it, guess what happens...

Thats what I was thinking, but I dont know how to fix it. The original valve covers are long gone. The motor is tired, but runs really good.

Get rid of the efi valve covers, pull some off of a junkyard small block, or go to a speed shop like summit or jegs, order up some cheap chrome covers and breathers.
