I'm a little late to the party, but I also use a Prodigy, have for many years on different vehicles.
Be sure to check out your "charge" line to the plug and that it is clean and heavy. You want to charge your trailer breakaway battery and can even charge camper and boat batteries enroute
28ft, so...about 2500lbs maybe? I would have towed it home, too. LOL.

I am set to order one from Amazon, the original Ford part with the 4 pin and 7 pin both. Plug and play. It says 2002-2004, not sure what is different about 99-01. There are aftermarket ones that involve cutting and splicing

The plug goes to the trailer, the jack/pigtail/harness feeds into the back of the plug. This [[URL="https://www.etrailer.com/Custom-Fit-Vehicle-Wiring/Tow-Ready/118243.html"]LINK] doesn't show the 4 and 7-pin version I have, but one can always use a 4-pin adapter in the 7-pin plug.
Time is chawin' on my ***.
I took pictures during the repair and I'll post all of that soon. It's trailer time today.
2002 had a radical re-engineering of the whole electrical system.
