Stereo & Climate Control Lights
on this issue. This topic has been bugging me for a few days, particularly since I double-checked our 2015 Toyota Highlander XLE to verify that there are separate instrument panel dimmer (illumination) settings for day and night. However, there's no apparent OM discussion of a similar feature in the 2017 Super Duty.

I just confirmed that our 2017 F350 XLT also has "Day" and "Night" dimmer settings. I used the lighting control switch (which I also don't like) to help with the set up.
DAY Setting (with engine running; don't know if this makes a difference):
Turn Lighting Control Switch to Off (position A), use the dimmer UP/DOWN buttons to the right to select your desired setting, and then hit OK to save. Notice the dimmer scale shows six possible increments. You probably need to make this adjustment during the day to achieve a comfortable setting. On our truck, this setting doesn't seem to make any/much difference to the backlight illumination of the LCS itself:
NIGHT Setting (with engine running; don't know if this makes a difference):
Turn Lighting Control Switch to Headlamps (position C), use the dimmer UP/DOWN buttons to the right to select your desired setting, and then hit OK to save. Notice the dimmer scale shows 12 possible increments. You'll probably need to make this adjustment during at night to achieve a comfortable setting. On our truck, this setting does affect the backlight illumination of the LCS itself:
Adjusting the Night setting doesn't appear to affect the Day setting, and vice-versa. It's just by coincidence that both of my settings are at #3, which reflects my personal day/night panel illumination preferences.
Finally, I don't know if this info will help you achieve your desired results, but you do at least have some range of control.
I hope this helps!
