The canister purge solenoid valve is at the half way point in the hose most of the time but can be anywhere along the single hose.
But your computer would not operate it unless it had it in its program.

I appreciate you repeated help brother.
This is the sticker under my hood. It would seem my engine isn't configured for the valve because it is not on the diagram? Searching on the board has shown me that some have it some don't.
Is there a way to test the functionality of the vapor canister? Despite being hooked up to the throttle body and having driven around a bit I am still getting a strong odor around the truck most noticeable under the hood. I don't have any visible leaks anywhere and my fuel meter isn't going down without use.
I do not know and have not seen that question before.
I think you have the "Purge Port Evaporative Emission System".
Only the 4.9L engine has this system.
The Purge Port Evaporative Emission System does not use the purge solenoid valve.
I think the Purge Port(s) is located in the throttle body and should be closed off when the engine is not running. Maybe someone turned the throttle stop screw and the ports are open all the time. Do you have vacuum on the hose from the throttle body at idle?
You should not.
