Hello everyone, I am new to the site and have searched the existing forums to find something on this topic but haven't had any luck. What have you all done to secure the fuel door, or fuel cap on your truck? I have a 2017 F250 Platinum and can not understand why I can open my fuel door and cap when the truck is locked?? Why would they not design this with a lock?? Now I know we all hope people in this world are genuin and honest.... but we know that's not true. My fear is someone is gonna come by one day and fill my tank full of who knows what!! Any advice or examples of what y'all have done are welcomed!! 🤘🏼
Here's my truck by the way...( in my garage sits a 2.5" readYlIft level kit with track bar bracket, 35x12.50R22 RBP tires, and 22" wheels... just gotta find time to install--can't wait!!!)
I always keep a gas lock cap on the fuel filler. Can't do much about the DEF filler.
Vandals can easily pry open a gas filler door but it's a little more difficult to bust off a gas lock cap. Well, a little more difficult. It's a smart move to put road blocks where you can to avoid someone from putting something bad in your tank. And, if they bust the cap, I'll know it was tampered with. Not sure why many vehicle manufactures choose to engineer a locking fuel door from the inside and others do not. Expense? Worthless? A tiny screwdriver would pop one open. It's all just a deterrent.

Thanks for the info, and your right, I would think they would come with at the minimum a locking fuel cap stock? After all the tie hooks in my bed have a lock and come with keys stock! Seems more important for the fuel cap to have a lock then those in my eyes! I'll be finding me a locking cap, do you happen to have a link for one?
I bought mine at an auto parts store. I actually liked the previous one better but different model years require different parts. Make sure you purchase the correct cap since the wrong cap or a loose cheap cap can throw codes.
Keep looking down the list of posts and you'll find one about a locking fuel door. I think it was close to the top last week so it shouldn't be too many pages down.
Out of curiosity, is this a big problem where you live? People vandelizing other people's fuel tanks that is. I'm in my early 40's and I can't say that I've ever heard of something like this happening. (Knock on wood!).

Sweet looking ride!
Thanks man! And no it's not a "problem" I would say... but all it takes is cutting off the wrong person in traffic, pissing them off and they're pouring sugar in your tank! Haha it's never happened to me either, but would like to atleast deter it and it will give me peace of mine! 👍🏼
