Picked up my truck from the dealer last Friday. Since then I have noticed several times a click or slight clunk sound when truck comes to a stop at a traffic light. I've noticed the same sound a few times after letting off the accelerator and then accelerating again. Seems strange to me given the truck is new. Has anyone experienced this or something similar with the 17 SD? Mine is a CCSB F350 4x4 SRW diesel.
common on all makes of trucks with a slip yolk. My 2001 did it until I had the shaft rebuilt by Inland Truck Service locally. Dont know what they did but it never did it again. Chevy guys always drilled a small weephole to let air escape......Ford guys say to add more of the special lube. Trucks under warranty let them handle it
My 2017 does it as well....just not all the time. It will not hurt anything at the end of the day
My truck does this as well (2017 F250 CCSB) but not near as bad as my old 2016 F250 CCSB. My 17 has the clunk noise under the same conditions you describe, however, it is just a slight clunk and not loud like the 16. If I park the truck on level ground, put it in neutral, and set the emergency brake, the drivetrain slack is ever so slight and does not alarm me. On my 16, this same test was alarming, to me at least, because there was a large amount of rotational slop and output shaft play. The dealer service stated that it was normal and "in spec". I crawled under A LOT of trucks at 2 different dealerships and could not replicate one as bad as mine, not even close, rather a few that were similar to what my current truck has. They also wouldn't grease the slip joint for me when I asked if they would (since they claimed that's where the noise was coming from). Pretty cool to purchase a nearly 60,000 dollar vehicle that had more drivetrain slop than my 98' with 250,000 had and refuse to do a simple task for a customer complaint lol If you are worried about it, take it to your dealer and let them have a look. It really depends dealer to dealer on how they will resolve the issue for you. Good luck

Thank you for the info! I was hoping it was something simple like that. I'll check with the dealership about adding some more of the special lube. Gonna pull the filll plug on the transfer case before I drive it again to make sure it was filled from the factory.

I definitely agree! 60k for a truck, you'd figure the tolerances would be better. My 2001 SD had 160k on it when I got rid of it and it was tight as a drum when I sold it. Been in a ram for years with no issues. I reckon I can deal with the "normal" noise if it's common among the trucks. Thanks for the info!
Just to be sure, I'd climb under there and make sure your u-joints and driveshaft bolts are tight.
I was under the truck Monday night and everything looked good and tight. I'm gonna give a good once over before I drive it again. Planning on putting a BDS 4" lift and 37" Ridge Grapplers on the truck this weekend so I'll definitely check everything out!

We're definitely going to need to see some pics. I am also considering the Ridge Grapplers.

A friend of mine owns a tire shop and he has sold a bunch of the Ridge Grapplers. He said everyone seems to like them. He said most of the compliments are quiet, smooth ride and decent tread wear on the HD trucks.

I've checked the u joints and they are as tight as a drum check the u joint bolts they are tight as well. No vertical or horizontal play at the tail shaft or pinion. Took the drive shaft out and greased it with fords special grease for drive shaft "clunk", that didn't change anything. I went by the dealer yesterday and they told me it'd be a week before they look at it. They also mentioned greasing the tail shaft, did that to go ahead and eleminate that possibility before they take a look at it. I haven't filled out the "rate the dealer" questionair from the purchase so I reckon I have that to hang over their head if they don't want to make this right!
