i have a 1973 f250 4x4 360 motor that is a manual.
One part store says they can get me a fly wheel but it will be $165, while another can get me a flex plate for $67. They say it will fit and work but I heard that you can't put a flex plate into a manual. Is this true or can I use the flex plate??
thank you for your help guys!
There's nothing different that makes one specific for a 360.
Why exactly do you need a new one?
So my clutch just falls to the ground (and I have to pull it back up with my foot) and it barely disingages the clutch to shift even when it's on the ground, I basically have to slam it into 1, 2 and R gears and it won't go into 3rd. I was told that it may be my pressure plate. I got a plate and clutch kit, but it was highly recommended by some mechanics to replace the fly wheel as well, to increase the longevity of the clutch and pressure plate..
but all of this is to fix the clutch petal and clutch engagement position problem.
The mechanic did say that the clutch position problem might be the throw out bearing.. which came with the pressure plate kit.
You should find out if your flywheel has been turned before or has enough left to turn. It makes no sense to buy a new one if it can be trued at a Napa or something. It's usually very reasonable to do.
One other thing that should be checked too is cab mount condition. If they are rotten and sagging or sometimes cracked the cab sinks and changes the pedal geometry.
thats a great idea about the cab mounts. I'll definitely check and find out if I can just get the fly wheel turned. Great ideas! I'll let you know how it turns out.

Could motor/transmission mounts also cause trouble?
I jacked the engine up to get the mounts out which caused the automatic transmission linkage to pull the transmission out of park. Truck rolled just enough to come off the jack and drop back into park. Wasn't scary at all, honest!

PS, know the OP was about a manual but linkage is linkage...
You guys are right on what you call flywheel & flex plate AS WE KNOW them as but if you have a ford parts book they are both called flex plates as per numbers dummy an ex parts guy.
I think it depends on what part of the book you are looking in to get the right part & number.
