i bought Afe rear diff cover and I should have looked a little closer before I started but I started getting the oring ready to put on and noticed this chip in the cover. Is this something I should be concerned about, enough to wait on a new cover?
If I buy new, I want new and undamaged. But it's really up to the amount of downtime you can deal with or you can put the old back on for the time being. I don't believe the dent will affect anything.
When I purchased my Mag-HiTech diff covers, when they arrived I inspected them. IF mine had looked like that, I would have sent it back.
Like he said, YOU bought new. You should install new. That way if there are ANY problems with product, you will know it's not because of the fault that occurred before it got to you.
Agreed, looks like a casting flaw and it probably wont leak. However, for the price of these things, it makes you want to know for sure. My covers were pretty much flawless inside and out and I would have been calling had they not been.
Looks like an airpocket in the casting. It's on the inside so it should not leak. If all else looks good I would roll with it.
Yeah, while I agree with the others who stated to send it back, knowing me (can't see the flaw when installed, hassle to send back, doesn't affect anything about the truck), I'd fill the gap with the clay version of JB Weld and smooth it with a putty knife, then install it.
I installed it anyway and contacted them yesterday and they are offering 30% off my next order. Since I'm doing the 12v conversion this winter I was thinking about ordering the diesel exhaust now and take advantage of that. It would get it it down to $480. Anything else I should consider from them? Not as familiar with their products.
Is that exhaust system much better than others or are you paying for a name? I see a few systems for around $450, plus I could wait for coupon comes up and get some off of that

I agree, however voids in castings are quite common and I personally wouldn't worry at all and like mentioned just dab some silicone in it when assembling.
