Don Sambrook is a very knowledgeable guy and is happy to share his knowledge and products with anyone who is interested in sound deadening. He has given me some very insightful recommendations for treating my vehicles...some is pretty straightforward and some is "damn why didn't I think about that". Good stuff all the same.
A friend of mine who likes a different brand of old trucks told me about this stuff, claims it works great for sound deadening. Looks like the same stuff that Charlie talked about.
That's the good stuff for serious sound deadening...one point of caution when using MLV that has been bonded to the closed cell foam, MLV is stiff so when it is backed with the foam it becomes even stiffer. This would be great on the floor or any other relatively flat area but its a PITA where there are curves involved. I like to use contact adhesive to bond the closed cell foam to the body panel and then attach the MLV with industrial Velcro. If done right the closed cell foam can be sandwiched between the MLV and the body panel which requires no contact adhesive at all. This is one of the tips I got from Don Sambrook.
I thought this would be the appropriate location for this post.
I got my sound deadener today. KILMAT 80 mil 36 sq ft.
I pulled out the instruction sheet and kinda did a "HUH" sound.
Hope you can see what I'm talking about. about half way down the page.

Would that be considered like “open source” installation instructions?

I don't know what that means, but I thought it was pretty cool to read the instructions and find that they refer to our website, to see how the job gets done!
