Cab Noise

My original 56 (y-bock, 3 speed and 3.92 rear gear) is pretty noisy when driving above 50. You have to yell to the passenger, can't hear a GPS or radio without head phones.
If I use sound deadening products (hush mat, Lizardskin etc) what kind of an outcome can I expect? Will I be able to get the noise level down to carry on a conversation or comfortably listen to the radio?

I think it would help but you should start by sealing everything. My truck was pretty loud before I installed new door seals and plugged all the holes in the firewall. All new window rubbers as well as much of the noise is from wind.

Agree with Jules, the doors are the biggest source of noise (unless you have loud exhaust). If they aren't fit up right, even brand new rubber won't help.

I lined the entire inside of my cab and it made a HUGE difference. The cab would start to resonate at idol and would almost start to howl. Trying to drive the truck for more than just a few hours was exhausting.

I lined pretty much every inch of the inside of the cab. Roof, floors, up the firewall, the underside of the dash. I even took out the tank and matted that. What a difference it made!

I think with the gearing you have too makes for a lot of engine noise , one of the reasons I'm switching to an AOD. My doors are the culprits of much of the wind noise I get...also depends much in the direction the wind is blowing to where you are traveling I find..

I have a 9" with 3.50 gears that I'm considering. No one has said their cab is quit enough to have a conversation in. Let alone hear their radio.

Mine is most certainly quiet enough for all of that now!

Thanks for the pictures and info. I don't see anything inside your doors. Didn't you do the inside too?

Outlaw, Sorry in advance for all the questions.
Just went on the link you supplied but there is nothing called STP. Does Kilmer or Noico ring a bell? What thickness did you use 50 or 80 mils? About how much product did your truck cab take?

Mine is quite quite actually and a friend commented on how quite it was and how much quieter it will be once the AOD will be in it. I should find out soon..

BJ mine is just as noisy as we talked about that. I am waiting for the rear springs to come in and then my 9" 3.25 or what ever will be in and I will let you know. I found from Pete and Jake some shock mounts so I will have all I hope by he end of next week. Then when we go to Biloxi for the cruise I am going to buy a big car(ford) with fe in it and get rid of the pick up. Just kidding on that. I will let you know if it made much of a difference in noise as mine is also a 32 and no O. D.

Mine is quiet enough for all of those things while cruising around, but at highway speeds, not so much. You can hear the radio at highway speed, but you have to turn it up......At any rate, I used this stuff, and was quite happy with it.

RAAMaudio - Automotive sound deadening products

Very good guy to deal with, reasonably priced, and he packages it in sizes to ship in the mail, and save freight costs.
