Need C6 Help -- Torrington Bearings

Ok, so this is my first automatic rebuild and it has been challenging. When I disassembled the transmission, there were two Torrington bearings that came out. I ordered the Koyo 2 bearing kit to replace them. I have run into two problems with the larger bearing. The small bearing of the set is no problem as it is shown in the Bad Shoe Productions video on how and where to install it. For the larger bearing, I unfortunately can't remember where it was located in the transmission when I disassembled it and Bad Shoe Productions doesn't show the bearing at all in the video.

Problem number 1: Using the video, there is a thrust washer with 3 tangs on it that goes between the rear ring gear hub and the rear bearing race inside the one way clutch. In my pile of removed parts, I don't have this thrust washer. I do have the larger Torrington bearing. Is this were the large Torrington bearing goes, in place of the thrust washer? It seems to fit.

Problem number 2: The larger Torrington bearing in the kit is thicker than the one that came out of the transmission. Would that be a problem? If it is in the location described above would it reduce the end play. The Bad Shoe Productions shows checking the end play behind the pump before disassembly and says it should be 0.020 and 0.045. Mine was upwards of 0.055.

The bearing most likely goes in that location instead of the washer, if the replacement bearing is thicker you should still be able to use it if you can get the snap ring back on the output shaft, if not reuse the original one.

Great, thanks for the help.. I tried different combinations today to see if I could tell what was happening. I found that I can't install the old Torrington bearing, the new thrust washer or the thicker Torrington bearing at all. They all hold the ring hub forward too far to get the snap ring on. I assume it has to have one of them in there to work correctly though. Is it possible that the new park pawl thrust washer is holding the output shaft from going in far enough to get the snap ring on?

It appears the EBay listing where I bought the Torrington bearing set from is misleading. It indicates the two bearing set fits 76 and up but only one of the two fits. The second one is for 91 and up. You have to look closely at their picture of the bag it comes in. Just great. They did say that Ford redesigned the bearing race in 1991 to allow more room to put in a larger (thicker) Torrington bearing (at least I think that is what they are saying). Apparently the one that came out of my transmission was a Ford attempt at using the thin Torrington bearing which also had a high failure rate and that is why Ford redesigned the inner race in 1991 to go to the thicker Torrington bearing.

Can anybody confirm this???

Here's the diagram I used when rebuilding my transmission. It shows the order of the parts from one end to the other. Just follow the line. Obviously the 4x4 has a different tail housing, but the rest should be pretty much the same.
