New to this forum, any help is greatly appreciated. Have replaced the bearings and rotors on this truck before. So, from the beginning, was driving the other day when the outer bearing on front passenger went out. Apparently got so hot after, that inner bearing race was stuck on the spindle. After consulting the web I found this site that helped me figure out a way to get the race off (thanks!)
However, now it's off and when we went to put the new bearings on the outer bearing won't go into place on the spindle. Called some friends that said it's possible heat could've caused spindle to expand? Considering a way to polish down and make it fit? Or, replacing the spindle...
If it comes to replacing the spindle, well that's something I've never done before. Looks like a pretty tough job maybe. Would probably need help there as well.
Again any help will be greatly appreciated, thank you all in advance
IF the bearing spun then you have some grooves or lips sticking up on the sopt where the bearing sets. I normally use a small die grinder. IF you dont have that, you can do it with a flat file. Roll around the journal in 90 degree strokes taking off the high spots. It is best to get a micrometer to measure the jourmnal and see where it needs to be filed. I would guess the leading edge that first slides into the bearing is slightly mushroomed and just needs a few thousands filed off. Dont pound the bearing on. it should be a slide fit. If it wont push on, just file a few strokes all around the shaft and try it again. eventaully it will go.
