Does anyone know where I can get the bullets that go on the front of the 4 inch round mirrors that mount through the slot in the doors. Seen them on a panel van at a show a couple weeks ago and I have looked everywhere for them. I recall a discussion about these at one time on this forum but I cannot find it either.
They only work with the reproduction mirrors that have the connection point for them. They don't work with original round mirrors.

The ones I saw look like an allen screw tightens down on the nut that holds the mirror stand to the door bracket. I have DC repro mirrors so I guess they should work
Indeed, those might work. I have not seen them yet.
LMC was mentioned as a source, and they might be, but here's their mirrors and it shows the cap set. Might be good to read the Note at the bottom. See how it says "B" fits 49-6518 mirrors only. You might want to give them a call and see if any mirror of that style would work, or if there is something specific about their mirrors. It's a little unclear to me.
Called them and they said they should work. Also noticed that you can buy a convex mirror to fit these mirrors. That would sure come in handy on the passenger side because to be quite honest, compared to the mirrors on vehicles today, these are worthless. Might order one of those as well.
Update on the bullets. They do not work on DC mirrors. The acorn nut is to big for the bullets to slip over. I am going to try and find different acorn nuts that will fit the stud and slip into the bullet. Also I ordered that mirror for the right hand side. #5 in TA455HO's post. I assume it is supposed to just glue to the regular mirror because you buy glue also. Problem is that the mirror is slightly to large to fit down into the lip the mirror head has so the new mirror does not touch the original mirror. Going to take it to an auto glass shop and see if they can grind it a little smaller so it will work. If I can't get the bullets or the mirror to work I guess it was just wasted money.
Also it is not a convex mirror, like a spot mirror on a semi. It is a new style flat mirror and it says objects in mirror are closer than they appear. I though that was kind of cool.
The acorn nuts on my non-reproduction mirrors are 1/2" across the flats. I wonder what size the acorn nuts are on the LMC mirrors?
Maybe 11mm, lol.
Hopefully 7/16", which is getting pretty small but probably workable.
Interesting news. At least that isn't permanent if you change your mind.
The mirror, if it has that wording on it, will be a quick tell that it isn't original to your truck. That wording was not mandated until something like 1976. On the early Trans Ams it is a clear indication of a replaced passenger mirror. Not sure it would exactly knock you into a modified class, I sorta doubt it (lol), but don't be surprised if someone gives you flack. But, probably not a bad idea from a usability perspective.
Well the acorn nuts on the DC mirrors are 5/16 by 18 and take a 9/16 wrench. The hex in the bullets are much smaller than 9/16. So armed with the bullet and the mirror arm I head to the hardware store to get something. Chrome plated 5/16 by 18 acorn nuts take a 7/16 wrench but the nut is still to big to go into the bullet. I tried every nut I could and either were to big or to small to fit the hex of the bullet. Metric or SAE. So now I am at a dead end. I am thinking about taking a dremel tool to the inside of the bullet and making the hex bigger because using the acorn nut that the 7/16 wrench fits it is so close to fitting that if I remove the chrome plating I think it will fit.
