those sites are not accurate. they say there are three station selling pure gas in new jersey. but the only place in jersey that sells pure gas is airports, and they will not sell to cars or trucks.

i use a double dose of stabil and marine stabil. that makes ethanol blend gas last for over 18 months without going bad.

I put stabil in my mower gas, boat gas, chainsaw / weed eater gas or anything I don't drive on a regular basis. I really need to buy it in a 5 gallon bucket!! However I can start my mowers on the gas that was left in them in the fall with no problem!

I used to get gasoline down in Tijuana, but it's been a hit and miss lately. Sometimes it's refined in the U.S. where ethanol is mixed in. Four years ago, I was consistently getting far better gas mileage, but lately, it's been similar.

without stabil my 04 will not start on e blend over 4-5 months old. with it i can leave it sit all year and it will fire rite up to go plowing 11 months later. i leave the tank full to keep water out, so that is 36 gallons i needed to experiment with to keep it from turning to crap over the summer.

Try adding some B12 chemtool, works for me. I have a lownmower that is 9 years old and never had the carb off. Other than to put in a new primer bulb.

One of the issues with ethanol-enhanced gas is that alcohol (of any kind) has a great affinity for water. That means in any high-humidity area, there is a significant risk of water getting in there. I don't know what the issues are in summer, but in winter, it can become a serious problem.

I know that Stabil will take care of the gas, but I don't know that it's been well researched what effect Stabil has on ethanol.

I filled it up yesterday with 15 out of 36 gallons left in the tank. For calculation purposes, I'm glad the odometer had just turned over 800 miles while I headed to the gas station. We'll see how much my lie-o-meter really is lying the next time I fill up.

I think part of the problem before with bad mileage was the truck breaking itself in. I was getting 14.6 a few weeks ago, but even after taking the same trip daily, without me really changing my routine, the mileage has gone up to 15.0-15.1. Keep in mind that I don't baby this engine--I don't drive like a jerk, but the turbos kick in pretty frequently when I'm in the driver's seat!

If you didn't reset the fuel economy when you filled it your hand calculated results won't match the trip meter.

According to my calculator, your average speed for those 266 miles is 20.8 MPH.
Were you in the driver's seat?

Yeah, I meant to reset the trip meter once I filled up, but I forgot. I reset it once I got back from the gas station, so the calculation should end up being relatively accurate.

pdqford:

I have no idea how that number makes sense. It should be about 40-45 on average, maybe slightly lower if you count sitting at a short traffic light.

In fact, I can't remember any stretch of time driving 20 mph or slower. Every street I drive on is 25 or higher.

Does the trip meter start counting when you do remote start?

Yup, I've been in the driver's seat the whole time!

If you drive a mile at 60 MPH. Then sit at a traffic light for 1 minute, your average speed will have been 30 MPH. So depending on traffic and things, your average speed could be quite misleading.
