Well, my original starter on my 89 aero has finally become unreliable. - (doesn't always engage)
my question is - on the mount itself, there looks to be 2 bolts, and I see those on the new starter, but then there is a 3rd bolt on the flywheel frame there, that doesn't have a head like the other 2 bolts...
I know a photo would help everyone, but I just didn't know if that was attached to the starter or not, since you can not access it... or is it like a large set screw? or just a pin to help align the starter on the mount?
any advice on this swap? - what size are the heads on those 2 bolts? 13mm? any order of removing stuff - of course I will pull the neg terminal off batt first.
Seems like I remember three. Two from the front and one from the rear. The one from the rear goes thru the housing and threads into the starter. This was on my 97 3.0 but it should be the same.
Three bolts, like shown for the '97,
but the '89 has a remote solenoid, on the fender.
Be sure to verify the ground strap is secured, otherwise intermittent or no starter op.
YES that looks very similar - so my question is, the middle (top) bolt there... I don't see a hex head on that one, on neither the same side as the one below, not on the side of the starter?
