New 6.2 owner

Towing report. I towed a 20’ enclosed car hauler with my 72C10 inside from SoCal to Idaho recently. I was very curious how the 6.2 would do towing especially with the 3.73 gears. The loaded trailer probably weighed about 7k lbs.
I am happy to report the truck, engine, and transmission did great. I put it in tow/haul and let the transmission do it’s own thing. No gear hunting, it just seemed to be in the right gear the whole trip. Very nice smooth shifting too.
The engine needs to rev, but the great thing is even in the 3k rpm range the truck interior is still very quiet and I didn’t get worn out because the engine was “screaming” like I have read so many times. The truck would shift and rev to the 3k rpm range and I could accelerate even on the steepest passes. And WOW this engine sounds great!
Very stable solid towing. No sway at all even when passing or in high winds (which there were plenty with the big trucks getting blown around), just a locked in solid truck/trailer feel. I even tried to make some quick steering adjustments (when nobody was near me) to see if I get get the trailer to sway and it wasn’t going to happen. This is great news because my (2016) F150 was all over the road with this exact same combo (loaded the same).
Glad I gave the gas engine a chance instead of just springing for the diesel again. I can understand if you are going to be towing heavy a diesel makes sense, but for my needs it just doesn’t. The camper I am looking at buying will be less than 9k lbs so this truck will be great. Love the lower maintenance and pulling through the cleaner gas pumps too.
Really liking this truck, I think I will have this one for a while.

I looked at both myself. I ended up with the diesel. I just like how it handles the 250. Can’t wait to hit the mountains in the spring. This 6.7 will be so smooth. Getting a TT later in summer. cant wait. Did love how the 6.2 sounded thou but went with the torque for my needs. Good luck. Both are great engines.

Quick update on the fiberglass shell situation. After getting no help from the manufacturer or the place I bought it from, I ended up listing the thing on Craigslist and it sold very quick. I disclosed to the buyer everything that had happened and showed him the damage to my truck and he didn’t seem to care, just said his truck was a work truck and he didn’t care if the paint rubbed off in places.
Ended up losing a bit of money on that deal, but that will be the last cap I ever buy.
I put a Backflip MX4 on the truck and I’m not super happy with it either. One of the panels that doesn’t have latches on it lifts up off the bed creating a gap when traveling at 70+ MPH. I have to look to see if there is a fix for this.

Get a Retrax Pro and be done with it. Not cheap but really worth the cost.

my 6.2L has 152,000 miles (2012)
my trailer is 9,000 plus loaded and I have 1,500 pounds in truck bed..
N.E. Ohio to South Texas and back... past winter no issues and used No oil.
I will be repeating it in 7 weeks... that is 1,800 miles each way.
with a temperature change from 30 degrees in Ohio and 100 degrees in Texas.
4 days down and 4 days back... with a long rest in between
Welcome all of you guys to the 6.2L club.....

this all sounds promising to me. need to upgrade from my F150. looking at the 2017 F250 XLT . like to know what kind of MPG you have been getting without towing your trailer since ours will be used every day more for just normal driving.

Hope I am not hijacking the thread. I am looking to purchase a 5th wheel (Sabre 27RTL, 31', ~11,500 max weight, 1800lb pin). I am also going to purchase a truck - 2017 Ford 350. This is my first 5er but had 2 TT. Most driving will be 20 miles when not towing. Towing will be from southwestern Ohio to lower Ky (5-10 times over the summer) and trips planned over the next 5 years (one per year Maine, Tetons, Alaska, Ariz, Cali) and 2 annual trips to lower Florida.
So only 10-20% of the miles will be towing and usually just one big trip at a time. I would prefer 4.30, but this late in the model year I cannot find many. Lot's of 3.73 out there. With those of you who have towed near 11K with a 6.2L and 3.73, do you regret it? Due to some timelines, ordering a 2018 might be too late due to when I need the truck.

New FTE and new to me 2016 F250 6.2 CCSB 4x4. Glad to be a part of the family. I purchased mine back in May after a tremendous amount of research and NOT ONE regret thus far. After having driven various trucks, with and without diesel engines, this truck suits the bill just fine for me. So much to say about this truck alone and comparing it to others, but I won't bore any of you with that. It's simply the BEST truck I've ever owned.

My 2015 work truck is 10,000# with a 6-7000# trailer. Tows fine with 3.73 and the 6.2L. But we should have bought the 4.30 gears for sure. Maybe even 4.56. You have to lock out 6th gear, and often 5th in the steeper hills. Not uncommon to pull hills in 3rd gear. Not that it really matters. Engine runs fine, let it breath and rev.
My personal truck only tows under 9000#, so I went 3.73 this time.
