Arrow Looking for drain plug information

Ok. This is for my 96 with 351.

When I bought this truck 9 years ago, the drain plug was on the border of being rounded off. I've been very careful with it over the years and always get it started with a flank drive impact socket. Today I did an oil change and I have decided that the plug finally has finished it's useful life.

I am looking for a replacement drain plug. My first question is, is the plug size 1/2 inch 20 thread or something else? I don't want to waste time looking for the wrong size plug.

Secondly, are there certain aftermarket brands that are better than others? I wouldn't mind having a magnetic drain plug, so if there is a quality aftermarket source, I would be interested.

If there are good magnetic aftermarket plugs out there, does anyone know of one that has the original 5/8" hex head? If I can't find one with original dimensions, I will probably look for an OEM part.

Thanks for any help on this.

Go to your local O'reilly's. You'll find them across the aisle from the engine oil.

Ok, this thread didn't seem to garner much attention. I guess it makes sense, as most people don't spend a lot of time thinking about drain plugs. Just thought I would post an update, in case someone else is looking for this info in the future.

I went to ford and bought an OEM plug. The part number is F75Z-6730-BA. The listed specs for this part are 14mm x 1.50 with a 16mm head. A 5/8 6-point socket fits on the head without any trouble.

Other specs: Length under Head: 20mm / Washer Head OD: 28mm

I didn't think the SBF Windsor engines used metric drain plugs

Neither did I. I was really surprised when I looked up the specs for the part they gave me. I really wish I wasn't 1600 miles away from my next oil change so I could try it out.

I've got a Gold branded magnetic drain plug. Original is in my toolbox, needs new grey paint but otherwise fine. Mag plug takes a 3/4" socket, and if I recall correctly, it was indeed metric thread.
