So I got off work today, got under the truck and attempted to undo the fill plug on my 2009 f-150. Needless to say the plug would not budge and it even started to strip, so I stopped, who ever had this truck before tightend the heck out of it! Good thing I listed to someone on this forum recommending to always undo fill plugs first in case you can't get it off! Anyway does anyone know the part number for a new drain plug? And how do you guys suggest I get this dang plug out! Thanks in advance!!!
I haven't looked but is it an Allen head or a hex head? Either one really you can pound on a size smaller socket(12 pt.) or Allen socket and remove the bastage bolts. The pounding of a hammer helps. Also helps to soak them in some Aerokroil overnight.
You started to strip the threads or round out the head? The factory uses some red thread sealer to keep it in place and I believe the plug is tapered also. I've never had a problem getting those out of mine so I'm no help there but be careful because the t-case is aluminum and the threads will get messed up long before you damage the threads on the plug.
ETA. I always use just a square head to remove the plugs. I believe it's a 3/8" that fits in the plug perfect.
Thanks everyone, I started to round out the hole, put a little blaster on the threads and used a cheater bar and was able remove the plug very carefully. Thanks for everyone's advice!
