Hard to find electrical issue

Hey,

I've an interesting issue with my 87 Ford E350 Cuttaway/MotorHome.

Over the last couple years I have been blowing fuses for my signal lights. I tried everything I could think of to narrow it down. Over the last few days I've been trying some new things and here is what I've found.

Signal lights don't seem to be the issue, rather I think it is the reverse lights as they are on the same circuit. I put a simple light tester in place of the fuse and started moving stuff around. If I bang the steering column it will flicker randomly showing me there is a short. So, I thought it was in the column. Today I left the tester in and drove around the block. It never came on until I gave it gas and put it under a bigger load. I parked it and tried revving it, light would not come on. I then put the brake on, put it in drive and gave it some gas. Light flickered on the tester. It seems that its under load when it shorts. I wiggled every wire I could find including the backup switch wires on the transmission and nothing would trigger the light.

I'm lost for ideas? Anyone have anything they can suggest?

Thanks,
Walter
