Hi, I have a 1997 E150 Clubwagon that has a problem with blowing air out of the front(dash)vents. Basically, the air coming out of the front a/c-cooling vents on the dash is non-existant. And nothing changes no matter what speed I set the (front)blower on. The rear vents blow fine(They are on a different switch & the cooling is good in the back of the van). Since the rear vents work ok I don't think there is a problem with the air conditioner. I have checked the front blower motor & it works, & I replaced the resistor as well & still have the problem. I was told by a neighborhood mechanic that is is probably the dash switch itself that is the trouble and should be replaced. However, he had no idea how to get the switch out to test/replace. Any ideas or suggestions?
I'm assuming this is a factory stock Club Wagon........
The dash vents are controlled by a vacuum motor located center top of the dash under a removable panel----somewhat close to the windshield. When functioning properly calling for Vent and A/C it will redirect the air flow from the (front) floor outlets to the dash vents. Remove that plate (snap fitted) and move the function control from Vent to any other position and see if this motor does anything.
If not then you have a problem with the vacuum motor, a loose or leaking vacuum line from the function switch OR the function switch iteself.
The rear area air flow isn't affected by the dash mounted function control--its either in heat or cool, high medium or low speed but the temperature control might affect the rear tempatures IF your van doesn't have the ceiling mounted controls for that.
Chances are if the heating/cooling system is working except for the dash vents its located around that vacuum motor---I'd start by checking there first.
Haven't forgot about this problem. I had a PATS issue with our F150/daily driver that took up all my time. I will do a little more investigating and get back to this forum.
