Ford backup camera

I ordered a backup camera on my 2017 450 chassis cab. The body builder forgot to install it, I am now getting around to doing it myself, but low and behold, the cable is too short with the camera in the only practical location. May there be an extension cable available? I have looked on Ford's accessory website, no help there, mainly due to the inadequate nature of the website.

I do not relish splicing in a piece, as the wires are pretty small, maybe 22 ga. or so. Comments from anyone who has been there would be appreciated.

Splicing the wires should be a problem but I would solder them to make sure the video wires have a good connection. Also measure from the ground to the camera location on a truck that has one installed, when I moved mine from my tailgate to my cut down 5th wheel tailgate it's a little lower and I will get warnings because it thinks there are things in the way but it's just uneven ground.

I've heard there is an extension cable available from Ford.

I was an electronics tech in a previous life, so I have worked with plenty of small wires, but maybe I'm getting lazy in my old age, and definitely not as dexterous. No chance of getting the camera too low, as it has to go up on the headache rack. Thanks for the hints.

I hope so. The Ford website would not recognize the p/n on my camera kit, but I found two different but similar numbers, the images both looked like mine, but no p/n's for the individual parts. Next stop will be the Ford parts counter. It does seem like there would be extensions, as it is not always practical to plant the camera on the tail end of the truck.
Thanks HRTKD.

I sure am striking out on this, went to the Ford dealer, my cable measures 11.5', the dealer shows the p/n as being 20'. Longer cables are listed as 30, 40, and 50'. So I went on Ford chat, same thing. I don't understand why in any circumstance a cable that long would be required. I May just have to splice a piece in my cable. I'm short less than 3'. Any Ford cable I find is $100 or more, and I don't even know what they are, due to a lack of description.

Hmm, maybe I misunderstood what was available. A completely new cable of a different length doesn't sound like what I read, but maybe I didn't have enough coffee that day.

No coffee problem, as I don't drink it, but maybe I should, as I'm on a sleep deficit today. I guess I'll order the shortest cable from Ford and see what turns up.
Thanks HRTKD.
