Aluminum Bed Durability

Aluminum Bed Durability
I wanted to post this for reference. This is a 2015 F150 Menards rental truck. For those who don't live in the Northern Midwest, Menards is sort of like Home Depot, with lumber, landscape materials, stone, gravel, plumbing, furniture, yard equipment, etc. Remember, this is a cheap rental truck used for hauling far more damaging items than the average truck owner would ever haul.
There are absolutely no holes in the bed whatsoever, even after 3 years of being this particular store's only rental truck. Also notice the steel ladder rack that's already rusting through!
I'm not totally sure it's a 2015, but I remember this truck sitting in their parking lot almost the same time the 2015's were released.
Seems to hold up pretty well for a "fragile" bed!

I almost didn't read this thread as I though you were dragging the dead horse GM commercials up again for discussion.
This is a good find. I zoomed in on the picture and there are some serious dents. Looks like someone dropped a 50 gallon drum at the top right corner. Another great example of reality not matching commercials. Reps sent...

Thanks Onug!
I really should have gotten better (or at least closer) pictures of that bed. After I got that shot, I turned around to see a group of about 10 people staring at me... It was also a very busy day, and I didn't want to attract too much attention taking dozens of pictures of the rental truck.
In retrospect, i should have at least gotten a shot of the back of the bed, more notably the tailgate.

Aluminum, steel, pot metal (I got a lecture about pot metal here once...), I don't care what it is on a pickup, I can't stand sliding something in there and peeling the paint off in big curled strips like you get peeling an apple.
So I got a drop in bed liner. And I don't dump stuff in with a front end loader.
Problem solved...for me anyway.

For the small investment im surprised they didn't put a bead liner of some sort in it to "idiot" proof it to some degree. Steel or Alum im surprised there isn't holes in from how people treat things that don't belong to them lol. I think our menards has chevy trucks, i'll have to look next time im there.

Agreed....I have a plastic Bedliner in my 2016 f-150 for the simple reason I don't want any damage to my bed.....and for the record I removed my plastic bedliner in my 2006 super duty ( been in there since new) to take a look...there's no rust no bed damage at all except some paint rubbing.....

I have seen many Wisconsin trucks that had rust holes under the plastic bedliner after a decade. But this is the road salt capital of the world, so it's almost like they are trying to wreck our vehicles. There probably won't be such a corrosion issue with the aluminum bed. But I still opted to use Linex, with a rubber mat over the top. The rubber mat might be overkill, but I'm definitely not concerned about bed damage, with that much protection.
