Hey, lookin for some ideas on an "off-road" style flat bed. I own a 77 F250 short bed, but no bed, not a problem, i'll build a bed. I'm an engineering student and competent fabricator and excellent welder. I was just looking for some ideas and opinions. I'll design it on Solid Edge and then i'll post pictures up later. But for know i was wondering if anyone has done this and was willing to send me some info and advice. I want it to look something like this.
Is it for work, or mainly the "offroad look"? I was laying out one almost identical to the pictures, but didn't end up building it. If it was me, I would make the bed wide enough to fit in an ATV, and make a functional tailgate. To me, an old flareside tailgate would be pretty cool.
Other than that, it would be mainly personal taste.
i think it will have plenty of room, and it's main use will be trail trips and stuff, don't need to haul stuff, i'll work on it soon so you can see the plans
I like how the horizontal bar is at the same level as the dent in the body. Somehow gives a little OEM feel. Don't know how practical that height level would be for the floor of the bed though.
