My truck is a 2006 F250 4X4. I had an issue where more than half the time, my reverse assist would not work correctly. While at the dealership last week I paid them to diagnose it and found out that 3 of the 4 sensors were bad and needed to be replaced. The cost for each sensor was 159.95 and then they wanted and hour of diagnostic time and an hour for installation. Grand total for 3 sensors was about $650. Since that was way too rich for my blood I did some research and found a company selling the same sensor for a fraction of the cost (with great reviews), and also was able to change all 4 in about 10 minutes. Once they were replaced, every time I put the truck in reverse the alarm came on like I was already backed up against something. One of the guys that works in fleet at my department said he had the snap on scanner that would read the body computer and would reset any old codes, which he did. Now every time I put it in reverse it triggers the light in the switch and when we put it back on the scanner it shows all 4 sensors being bad. Is it possible that all 4 are bad or am I looking at another issue? Does anyone have any advice/clues on where to start?
For what it's worth, my advice is don't waste your time and money on them. I have a 2006 and 2011 with the rear sensors. They crapped out a few times and were replaced under warranty. When they crapped out after the warranty, I left them dead. Every once and awhile they'll give a pathetic chirp.
Spend your money on a backup camera instead. Much more useful and dependable; many cheap options out there today.
