Ben, does your truck have a trailer hook-up for lights? My 86 f250 had a trailer hook-up spliced haphazardly into the wiring of the tail lights.The previous owner had used wirie nuts to splice the trailer hook-up. When I bought the truck my brake lights, tail lights, reverse lights and cabin lights were inoperable. All I had was headlights and turn signals! 
Once I removed the trailer hook-up and spliced the wires back together everything worked fine.
