As you can see in the 2nd pic I have a wire that was cut and the PO ran a red wire from there to a red/blue stripe wire (that was cut) at the starting solenoid (first pic). I have no backup lights and can start the truck in any gear. I used the 3/32 drill and aligned the holes while in neutral (third pic)
Where is the red/blue wire off the starting solenoid supposed to go? My washer pump works so I have power going to the backup switch.
Believe I already answered the whole red/blue wiring area.
Although the book I need to look again is buried somewhere right now, you still need to trace from that point. I THINK it goes to the ignition switch then the ignition module.
The red wire(from solenoid) that got tapped into the upper red/blue goes into the firewall behind the stereo wiper motor area. The bare wire in the 1st pic goes down to the switch on the tranny. Where does the one on the solenoid go?
That wire should go to the NSS and then to the solenoid. It was cut and run directly to solenoid so the truck will start in any gear. Apparently someone was tired of the truck not starting due to mis-alignment or malfunction of the NSS. You can align that NSS with the drill bit all you want, but without that wire, it's not going to work, nor are you backup lights. Unless you hook that wire back up...or if you wire your backup lights to a toggle switch that's getting 12v, and you can switch on when you go to back up. If I had to guess the NSS was giving someone fits and they did away with it.
When I went to align the nss on the tranny one of the bolts was loose. I'm hoping that was the problem for them. So, I should have a bare wire comming from the nss?
I realize that it wont work unless the wiring is right, that is why I'm trying to get it that way.So the red/blue wire comes out of the firewall and goes to the nss. The wires coming up from the nss are factory wrapped, with no cut ends. Does the wire from the solenoid tie into it? I can't see where the wire was at or where it went to. Thanks
I put the two wires back together and it wouldn't even turn over. I'm still trying to find where the solenoid wire goes to. Maybe it got ripped out of the plug end that goes to the nss. Looks like flashlight time.
Is the gear shift out of adjustment? Does the shifter drop out of Park without pulling the shifter towards you?
If no to either: the NSS may have either: Is so gunked up it doesn't receive voltage; or it has bit the dust. Have you cleaned the NSS yet? The whole assembly including the wiring, that is.
The gear shifter is good and tight. It wont go out of gear without pulling forward. I have power in the white/purple No power in the black/red
I haven't taken it off to clean it yet.
That red/blue stripe that is cut should go to the NSS. From the NSS it should go to the starter solenoid. If you have fixed that wire I am guessing it will not start because you have a defective NSS. I think he just cut the wire and then cut the wire at solenoid and wired together to get 12v+ bypass. Just make sure the red/blue wire is intact all the way through harness.
I found the wire that got cut that went to the SS. It was taped up and buried. Now I get to hook things up the way it's suppose to be. Hope everything works. Thanks for the help. You people are great
I got the wires hooked the way they were from factory. I used solder and shrink tape, muchem better. I still don't have backup lights but it has to be in park or neutral to start now. Had a scary moment with it being able to start in gear. Father In-law almost lost some fingers. I'll see what I can find out on why the backup lights don't work later this week and let you know. I had family things to do today so I was glad to get as much done as I did. Thanks again for all the help.
