Just traded a 2016 for a 2017. With the new design my TrekStep tailgate step obviously won't bolt to the bumper support of the new truck.
Check out this simple & lower cost option from CR Laurence. Has anyone used one of these or have an idea of how they attach to the gate? Haven't been able to find instructions online anywhere. No reviews on Amazon so far.
Not really interested in drilling holes in the sheet metal of a brand new truck. For the somewhat limited use I also don't want to spend $260 for an AMP Research step.
It really seems like you could get the Ford step and install it in your tailgate for a clean installation.
The AMP step is a good option. But it's basically about $100 more than the Trek Step that I had in the 2016. And they're essentially the same thing. Unfortunately Bestop has not come out with a Step Trek for the 2017's yet.
I'm guessing that the Ford step would be much more money.
Bestop is plastic; Amp is metal. The extra money is worth it.
For my 180 pounds the Bestop worked like it should. It wasn't exactly being used several times a day. The step tread itself appears to be a combination of plastic & aluminum while the framework is all aluminum.
But for a decent looking retractable option it appears that the AMP will be in store for the future. It just so happens that some other things I've ordered so far will all be delivered today from various suppliers. It'll be a busy day of installing tonneau cover, vent visors and mud flaps.
Next week the Raptor bed liner material & the Reese 5th wheel mounting hardware for the factory prep package should be here so there's 2 more projects. A little expensive and time consuming to switch to a new body style!
