I have an annoying issue with my 2001 Expedition XLT's door locks. We have had issues in the past with the rear driver's door not locking and unlocking and have been living with it (easy at the time to simply reach back and lock/unlock as needed) however, now it has gotten to the point where the unlock/lock demons have migrated. From the keypad on the drivers door we can enter the unlock code and the drivers door unlocks just fine. When we press the key combo to unlock the other doors, we hear the actuators try and unlock but again nothing unlocks. We can enter the key combo on the keypad to lock all doors and with the exception of the aforementioned drivers rear door all will lock. Moving inside, the drivers door lock switch will lock all doors (again excluding drivers rear door). The auto lock feature will lock unlocked doors (except the drivers rear door), however the unlock will ONLY unlock the drivers door. The actuators make a noise like they are trying to unlock but nothing moves upward...any starting points? Its getting really tiring trying to crawl across the beast to unlock the passenger front door and have to use the key to unlock the back hatch. Thanks in advance.
Have you tried spraying something like WD-40 on the lock/unlock mechanisms inside the doors? They just might be a dry and are sticking.
Trying that this weekend...have read that the central security module might be the culprit...the unlock relay portion may be fried...trying to research that next.
I had a similar issue last summer. All of my locks worked except the passenger rear door. Consistently would not unlock with the key fob or with the central/driver's lock switch. Removed door panel, cleaned contacts on door lock actuator, added dielectric grease, then lubed lock mechanism and pivots, everything worked as it should.
Since this one was becoming problematic, also did this to all other locks in the rig. Figured they were on the same path, just not there yet. No problems since (knock on wood).
Update....Got the locks working again. Found a central security unit at pick-n-pull with a key fob (have not replaced the battery yet in the fob) but I connected it up to my Expedition and hit the unlock button on the driver's door and all doors (except the drivers rear door...that's another problem for another day) including the rear hatch locked and unlocked perfectly. I tried the factory code on the CSU at the key pad and it unlocked the drivers door correctly. I was able to change the keypad code to my personal code and it all works as it should. I also lubricated the drivers door latch for good measure.
