Macs is now owned by Ecklers, (a chebby company mostly) the only thing they still have is their upolstry. They don't stock anything. I placed an order in May. Shocks plus. Checked the box when it came, all four shocks were in bottom of box. Came from Florida not Buffalo N.Y. I just took them out the other day 8/22. One shock box had been opened and mounting hardware was missing. I called and initially they were going to send the parts. The next day they called and said supervisor said it was over 30 days they were not going to send and were rude to my wife(I wasn't home)about it. I called next day and got the same line. Apparently supervisor never worked on old trucks. I guess I should have pulled out and checked everything. I have along way to go on this truck but Macs won't hear from me again.
I thought Mac's was one of the better suppliers before they were bought out by Ecklers. Now, I hesitate to buy from them if someone else has what I'm looking for. I think the quality has gone downhill and I feel like I'm getting ripped off unless I have the code for one of their constant "sales". Even if their prices are lower, you loose it on shipping and handling charges which seem to be higher than other vendors.
You'd think any business that caters to a specific niche would monitor discussion boards that relate to their product or service. I wonder if any others ever drops by here. I seem to remember s few posts about Macs after the buy out. I bought from them once before the buy out and got nailed on shipping. Instead of waiting to complete the order they shipped three different shipments a few days apart.
Another tale:
I am rebuilding an original Trico vacuum wiper motor, since the lube trick didn't work. I need two new paper gaskets, and Mac's has them for $2.95. I called yesterday and asked for a postage price before ordering, having been burned by them before.
They were resistant to giving me the price before obtaining my personal information, other than my zip code, but ultimately went through the computer screens to give me the price.
These 2 gaskets will fit in a first class envelope with $.49 postage. The price they gave me was $9.50 for shipping only. I called Snyder's and bought the entire rebuild kit, and the postage and handling was $3.50 in a small padded envelope.
No more Mac's for me , ever!!
I bought a floor mat from Mac's on eBay for my 55. They said it was just like the original. The picture on the eBay ad looked like the NOS one I have in my 54. I messaged the seller if it had perforations for the floor shifter and the e-brake like the originals. She replied that it does.
When it came I noticed several things. It was a lot thicker than the original. This may be a good or a bad thing. It did not have perforations to cut holes for the shifter and e-brake. There was a blemish on the mat on the driver's side. I messaged them about this. They said I could send it back or accept a $15 discount. I said how about $20 and they agreed.
Last summer I purchased a Grant Steering Wheel Adapter for a 1961 Ford Galaxy steering column that I used in my 51 F1 from Mac's. It took almost 3 months to get the kit.
The adapter was the wrong adapter for the column and did not match the photo on their web site. I called customer service and spoke a very nice young lady that put me in touch with one of their technical advisers.
After explaining the situation, he called Grant Industries and under a 3 way call we, discussed the problem. The Grant tech advisor said he would have to do some research and call me back.
After about 3 hours, the Grant tech advisor called me back and said that he was sure that I actually had a steering column from a 1963 1/2 Ford Galaxy. He gave me a different part number to order and said it would be the correct part
I called Mac's back to explain the situation. I was first told to send the part back for a refund, but then the customer service agent said that since I had waited so long for the part that turned out to be the wrong part, she said to keep the part and she would refund the cost of the part and shipping.
I purchased the steering wheel adapter kit with the new part number from Summit Racing which I received the next day and was the correct part for my steering column.
So, Even though the wrong part took three months to get to me from Mac's, they made it right and helped me get the correct part for my steering column.
I will still buy from them but I will be careful what I buy.
I've noticed some changes with Mac's as well however i never wish bad things on these vendors as even though a lot of the re-pops are not of the highest quality i'm still glad they are available. Having said that i find myself dealing more and more with DC, Midwest Early Ford, and Mid Fifty. I have also dealt with LMC truck for a lot of things. Sometimes the prices are very different and while i don't necessarily like to pinch on the price, some things just don't add up or S&H from one vendor to the next is WAY higher/lower/etc. Glad to have them all.
Although all the vendors seem to offer items from Dennis Carpenter or Bob Drake some the of the vendors seem to have a few of their own parts they must have fabricated themselves. At least that's what it seemed some years back. I haven't bought much from any of these guys in the past few years. In 2012, in preparation for my trip down to KY, it seemed Mac's had a few parts for my truck that I couldn't find anywhere else. I don't remember what they were. That's the reason I bought from them. Most mechanical parts I can get from my local NAPA store or their warehouse in the city. Many times they're lower in price and I like being able to deal with a local vendor so if I have a problem I can talk to them face to face. Plus I can usually save a lot on shipping, if there is shipping involved.

Eckler also purchased Dearborn Classics, a repro parts seller of Ford car and Ranchero parts. Eckler moved the parts from Bend OR (Dearborn's original location) to Lockport NY
Not sure what the deal is with shipping, everybody seems to do this - something that will fit in a standard letter envelope instead ships in a 1'x1' box, $10 shipping charge for a net $5 cost to them. I suppose padded shipping charges are just the way some business is done but it's super annoying.
