Which Offer?

Time is running out on ordering a super duty, so need help on my decision. Ordering an F350 XLT diesel dually, MSRP is $61,979. First offer is $53,831 and the dealer keeps all rebates ($3000) and $5148 dealer discount for 13.9% off MSRP. The snag is that price is locked in even if rebates go up. The second offer is $54,831 (actually two dealers came back with the same offer). This offer includes the $3500 ($3000 plus $500 military) rebate plus dealer discount of $3648 or 11.5% off MSRP. But this dealer stated that if the rebates go up, I get them. Both dealers are approximately the same distance from home, but the second dealer is in my mother's town.

Is either of these a good deal? Which deal would you take? Sure thing (first deal) or gamble that the rebates will go up (second deal). Or would I be better waiting into next year to order (truck month?). I don't have to have the truck right now, we won't be buying a 5er until next summer. But would like to have the truck in hand if we come across a good deal on a 5er.

Thanks in advance. All replies are welcomed!

13.9% discount sounds fantastic in my opinion. I only managed a 11% discount on a $72K MSRP. I'd lock that price in ASAP. Heard a few comments in this forum saying 12% is doing well.

Rebate money which would've gone to the buyer are kept by the dealer and applied as a discount to lower the sales price.

So what does it matter if they apply the rebate to the sales price or give u cash? You're coming out the same either way....and nobody walks out of a car dealership with $100 bills from Ford Motor Company.

Would you rather lower your purchase price (and possibly finance amount) by $1,000 or pay $1,000 more and get that $1,000 handed back to you? A rebate is really nothing more than a cash loan that gets rolled into your vehicle loan.

Correct...I would much rather the lower purchase price. Less sales tax for sure.
