To all our FTEers who are in Harvey's flight path: Be safe and as dry as possible. This looks like a really nasty, slow moving storm. Hoping for the best possible outcome.
We are staying home here is Houston, looks like Corpus Christi will be hit hard. Harvey is projected to go inland then turn back towards the gulf and go close to or hit Houston. By then it will be more like one of our heavy rain storms that we get almost every summer. Early this morning local weather was saying we might get as much as 30 inches of rain. Yes, 30". I am guessing more like 6 or 8. We are ready here at home, have my generator ready and plenty of food/water. Thanks for the concerns and good wishes, nothing like a hurricane to get ones attention!
Stay safe Topper ,hope you don't get flooded out. That's a lot of rain...
Thanks John, will do! I actually live in the area not far from downtown named the Heights. 58 feet above sea level! Should be Ok, been here since '79 and the house has never flooded. We did lose enough of the old asbestos roofing in 08 with hurricane Ike to get a brand new one, but never flooded. My neighbor had a weather station that measured winds at 118mph during Ike, I actually felt our 101 year old house vibrate that night!
The weather guy up here said you may get 8-10 inches of rain per hour ! That is a lot of water. Let us know how you are asap afterwards. Good luck. Stay dry.

As always, we'll take any of that rain you don't want! 4.8" so far this YEAR!
The rain forecast totals are hard to imagine. Just depends on where it stalls out....
It's supposed to rain for 5 days... Our forecast in Austin is for 10 to 15 inches. We just
got back from the grocery store - the entire bakery dept was sold out of everything not
even a single loaf of bread. I'm not sure it makes much sense as we are 4 hours from the coast...
Keep your heads down out there.

Having been through a couple of these on the east coast I can tell you that even a Cat 1 is fearsome. Stay safe if you are anywhere close. This is going to be a massive swath.
We are getting a lot of rain here in Houston now and some small tornadoes nearer the coast. They say this storm might sit here for several days and if it keeps raining like it is not then my garage/shop will end up having several inches of water in it. But as long as we still have water here we will be OK. I walked the dogs earlier and it wasn't terrible yet. We will see and I will keep posting.
Hey Topper,
Keep posting... We just got our first good band of rain up here...looks like a long day.
I feel for Rockport/Port Aransas - not sure what they will wake up to..
This is a picture of White Oak Bayou which drains to the gulf via Buffalo Bayou which is the Ship Channel into the Port of Houston. The water you see is about 40 feet deep, normally at this spot about 4 feet deep. On the right side of the water you can see the top of a brick wall which is next to a bike trail about 4 feet lower under water. Normally the bike trail is at least 25 feet above the level of the water. The massive amount of water here is moving really fast! We are fine still and still have electricity, haven't had to turn on the generator. Still have TV and internet!
This is about 1/2 a mile from my home.
