Ben, my brother in law lives in Austin too and my wife's cousin. Both said the same as you. I drove around our neighborhood and saw nothing like that, just lots of water. Not as many people out as right before the storm hit last night. Looks like it is going to hang around for a while, maybe through the week! Everybody be safe!

Yes it is a mess already and rain is still coming down and expected to for several more days. Our street is flooded, and my shop has 2 inches of water in it right now. I had everything picked up possible, but it will be a mess. If it keeps raining like this there is no telling how high it will get. Most of my house is 30" above ground, pier and beam built in 1907. My shop is a slab, only about 3" above ground. We still have electricity, water, local TV, and internet. A lot of people along the coast have greatly suffered, some people on their roofs. This may be the worst hurricane to hit Texas as far as damage, I wouldn't want to be the insurance industry right now. As I am writing this the rain has picked up to a downpour again. I walked the dogs an hour ago and walked through a lot of water, my dogs (not small ones) were soaked with water up to their chests. Only our lab liked it. We will be shut ins for a while here, probably couldn't get out of the city without a monster truck. We have plenty of supplies and are dry for now and will be fine.

Hey Topper,
It's just getting light here in Austin. Spent a very windy night listening to our 400 year old
oak tree hitting the second story. We are good ... the bulk of the rain is streaming up the
East side of the storm to you guys. The most I see from last night is 14 inches of rain to our
South & East in Smithville & LaGrange Tx.
We'll venture out here in a bit ...see how far we can get. Be careful over there in Houston...starting
to go batty over here. I'm ready for it to leave.

Ok over in the Bear Creek area right now. No water in our house but our street was flooded last night. The water has has receded at the moment. I suspect the lower part of the neighborhood was flooded. Haven't left the house since Friday afternoon. Still have water, power, and internet. Got our fingers crossed. The local news is showing huge amounts of flooding, mostly for folks south of here. Everyone is worried.

Safe in Jersey Village/ Beltway 8 and 290 area, been raining off and on all day and is pouring right now. The retention pond down the street is almost full and the bayou that is in front of my subdivision still has some room. If that crest, I'm in trouble because it will pour all in the neighborhood. Had to work late last night and almost didn't make it home, the Vette did well flying home, but it was scary. Everyone be safe and Topper, hope all is well in the Heights. I saw that it was getting hit too, L8R ZFLASH

We are ok here in the Heights, but we can't go anywhere. All the bayous are way out of their banks and flooding the freeways. I-10 is flooded at several spots, completely impassable. Can't get across I-10 at Studemont, Yale, or Shepherd, can't get across I-45 at North Main, But it doesn't really matter at this point since there is really nowhere to go since everything is closed. Stay safe and good luck L8R ZFLASH!, I have a couple of friends that live in Jersey Village back by the lake - haven't been able to get a hold of them. It is still raining here.
