Exactly, before Harvey hit it was a tropical storm, when I woke up it had turned into a Cat 4 hurricane! Poor Rockport! What it did to the rest of coastal Texas was to inflict an unbelievable amount of rain. Some areas got almost 50" in 5 days. The worst now is the two dams being released flooding many houses that were OK before.
I have lived here my whole life and seen many storms, some really bad. The difference with this one was the total amount of rainfall. Not the wind like other hurricanes, but the relentless rains day after day. Now when we have really nice weather all that water has to go somewhere. I feel for the people in the way of those two dams that are STILL releasing water at an amazing rate. Good luck all, and thanks for all the support from around the country!
Has anyone heard from Fred Mills - 38Coupe? He was staying at work and family was with relatives or friends. Did his house flood ? Did he have the cars/trucks safe or did he loose them? Hopefully he, his family and the house are ok.
My wife, 53 sedan, and myself are ok. I saw our house for the first time after the flood today, not pretty. The house is in the area currently flooded by one of the two reservoirs. The water release that is flooding folks down stream of the dams is slowly bringing out house above water. The house is canoe access only still. I was able to peer over the back fence today and the water line on the house is 2-3 feet. There was still an inch or two in the house. I have been working all week. Next week I work at least 5 12s. We are going to try to deal with the horrible traffic caused by the closure of all north / south roads between 99 and Chimney Rock. I don't look forward to it. I don't expect to see the house again until next weekend. Before the flood my wife drove away in her car and I drove away in my friend's 54 Ford sedan that was being stored in my garage. My modern daily driver (a Ford Focus) is in the garage, presumably flooded.
Fred it's good to hear you are both ok. The house can be rebuilt. I can't imagine how heartsick you both must be knowing the loss, hassle and work ahead. Traffic and basic needs must be horrific and I'm sure will be for some time. Our prayers are with you. I wish it was possible to make it easier for you both, try to keep your spirits up.
I can't complain too much. We have really kind friends providing us with a place to crash right now. I have a job, my wife has a job, we are both healthy and safe, and we have a large number of folks ready to help us clean up / tear the damage out the house (whenever we get safe access to it). Lots of people have it worse than we do.
Thanks to everyone here for their support too. edit: I should have been more clear in my previous post. The traffic statement was related to work. I work for the city traffic department in the signal timing group. We will all be working long hours to attempt to mitigate the traffic mess that will be exponentially worse than typical Houston rush hour traffic...
My everyday drive has gone from 15-20 minutes, to 45-60 minutes because of road closures. It takes 30 minutes to get from Chimney Rock and I10 to Woodway. Or 610 and Woodway exit because of the lights being out. 610 by the Galleria was still a parking lot at 9:30 last night,I know it's hard for someone to understand, but they've closed a lot of the north/south roads so these are the only two to have access. They say that it will take 3 months for the water in the reservoirs to drain, so we still have a long way to go. Thanks to everyone's prayers and thoughts. L8R ZFLASH (Derrick)

The traffic control cabinet at 610 and Woodway was under water during the flood. I know the back shop folks were trying to dry it out well enough to get it running again, but I'm not holding my breath. I expect they will have to find replacement equipment, which is in short supply at the moment. We're working it it...

That is just flat unreal! Good to hear you and Fred are doing as well as possible!
All of us here on the east coast of Fla. are in the gun sight next . Have made some minor preliminary precautions . Both trucks will be housed in garages where they currently reside . All gas tanks are full . Plenty of H2O . Have 3 propane tanks full for cooking . Will take the wife's car to my buddies house & put it in the enclosed trailer which is parked close to the side of his garage . So all that left to do is finish shuttering up ( have some on already ) take her car to trailer and pray . Will park the tow beast against the house garage door under the carport (which has been thru 3 hurricanes ) and is trusted to stay up as it was constructed by your's truly . Haven't been sleeping very good the last 2 nights & watching the weather channel often .
Feel so very sorry for all the people in Texas that lost everything and are struggling now . Will keep you posted .
Stay safe firstrider! I hope Irma doesn't hit you or anyone else, and if it does may it be much less destructive than Harvey. We got almost no wind here in the heart of Houston, but the rain!!!
Well the latest is it will go south of us over Cuba , just skirt us to the east over the Bahamas or the worst case scenario make a hard right at the Keys and go right up the middle of the state . Was by the Homer Depot & it was a zoo .Wife was at the grocery store & it was a buying frenzy . Will keep you all posted . Please keep us in thoughts & prayer . Thanks , Denny & Char
No one needs this type of disaster in their lives. We hope all of you in Houston are safe, dry and can get back in your homes soon. We also hope Irma takes a hard right long before it hits the US in Florida or the Carolinas or any where else. Let us know how you all are doing. Our prayers are with you.
