Truck Won't Start

My truck all of a sudden decided not to start anymore. It will turn over but it will not fire up. It puts out grey smoke as it turns over. I checked all the fluids, they are all clean and full. It will run for about half a minute after cranking a few times, less than 30 secs at a time. It has plenty of fuel. It has oil pressure, and the tack reads around 200 rpm while turning over.

I changed the CPS and fuel filter out this weekend and still got nothing. I charged the batteries up just to be sure. I just changed the oil/filter and the air filter 500 miles ago. Also put a new engine oil temp. sensor in it less then a 1000 miles ago. The truck is stock with 210,000 miles on it.

In the past year/10,000 miles it has had 4 new injectors, 8 new glow plugs, 2 new batteries, and a new starter.

The glow plug relay functions flawlessly.

I am guessing it is a glow plug problem, either the plugs or the wiring harness.

Any ideas or suggestions?

I have heard of the connection between the injector harness and the injectors vibrating loose, might check that connection. I believe that it is near the valve cover, that is where the connection is.

Hope it helps

I checked the connections, they are tight. Still getting nothing. No fuses blown, nothing. Checked all fluids. Tried plugging it up for awhile. Checked batteries. Getting fuel to the fuel bowl for sure. I have plenty of oil pressure while cranking, according to the dash gauge. Checked ICP plug for corrosion.

Any other ideas?

Do you have a buddy with a tuner that might be able to pull codes?? I believe that there are certain codes that will not throw the light. May be a bad PCM....

Let me know...I will keep thinking

I don't know anybody with a tuner. I guess I am going to take it to the dealer this week. I will post the outcome.

After having truck towed to the Ford Dealer. They say I have 3 weak or bad injectors, plus one side of the engine only has 15 lbs of pressure and the other side with 290 lbs of pressure after running a compression test. They are saying I need new cylinder heads, a new turbo ($800) and a rebuild ($2700 Labor); or a new engine quoted at $8230.

They did not tell me which cylinders were bad.

What I don't understand is why I never noticed any loss of power.

ouch, 210,000 is light for a diesel. And why a new turbo?

Definitely a lot less miles then I was expecting out of a diesel.

The dealer says the turbo fins were "wiped out" although I find it hard to believe.

The compressor fins or the turbine fins? If its the turbine fins maybe they got overheated and melted the tips. That can lead to the turbo failing.

BE CAREFUL! I just had the same symptoms you described above in my 99 f250 7.3l psd. I was warming it up (5 minutes) the other morning as I always do (cold weather or not). As I was walking to it to leave for work, it died and wouldn't restart, turning over and almost catching but not starting. To make a 2 day long story sfort, did you know that it the cigarette lighter fuse blows, that the OBD-II is on the same fuse? Why, I do not know, but once I disconnected the cigarette lighter (it was shorting out and blowing the fuse) and put in a good fuse, it started right up.
I guess that's why the 99 PSD's have a "power port" for plugging in additional accessories.
Annyone know why Ford would put the OBD-II one the same circuit as the cigareete lighter??? I have several empty slots on the fuse panl, so I am confused by their design.
