'57 Lowering Tips

I want to lower my '57 F100 and am looking for any advice or tips. Not sure of the amount of drop I am trying to achieve, I just know the look that I want. Just looking to find out what others have done and how much drop they have achieved. Did you buy a dropped axle or is that even necessary?

Thanks in advance for your help!

It all depends on your budget. The rear is an axle flip and C Notch, front you could do a Z channel of the frame or a mustang ii welder series front end. You could also do a crown vic with adjustable coil overs. I'm sure there is a drop axle available but I've never searched it out so I'm not sure.

I am doing the same thing on a ’58 and am looking for about the same stance. I am doing axle over spring swaps in both the front and rear. If your handy with a wrench and a welder, it’s the inexpensive way to gain a lot of drop. I am just finishing up the front. Depending on your motor, you may have clearance issues with the oil pan. I have lots of room between the axle and the frame rails. I have no issue with the pan as I replaced the 292 with a FE big block and built my own engine crossmember raising the motor up a little. I also have a front sump pan. You can see some pics on my post at https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...e-to-here.html.

I just went through that build thread and it's a great truck, nice work. But for some reason your front sat a lot higher than most. Usually you look under one and the axle is only 2-3 inches off the bumpers to start with. I'd surely do some measuring before I started anything. To the OP, I have an address for a place that will lower your axle, possibly just exchange if they have one in stock. I have never used them but the guys on the HAMB gave them good reviews

It had extra really stiff leaves front and back that were installed by the farmer. In the front, I pulled the extras and did the axle flip. In the back, after I pulled the extra leaves, the OEM leaves were shot. Luckily I had a set on a jeep frame that dropped right in and set it right where I want it, about 1/2 from the bumpstops but after the c-notch it will be fine.

So after some research and contacting Sids Dropped Axles, I decided to buy new springs from Western Chassis. I got the 4 1/2" drop in the front and the 4" drop in the rear. I also ordered all the parts from LMC to rebuild the front end. I'm still searching out shocks. I'm hoping this setup gives me the look I want.

Thanks to everyone for the tips and I will update you on the progress.

FYI, Sids is running 8-10 weeks for an axle.

not sure how low you want to go, i have single leaf all the way around on top of the axle, not my first choice or the best solution but it gives a nice low profile. its all coming out for the CV front swap.
mine currently sits like the pic shown in flh06's post

Champipple,

Thats good to hear. So the mono leafs I have coming may do what I want them to do. Did you put in new springs or modify the stock ones?

Anyone have any recommendations on shocks?
