I was confused by all the different suggestions but I went ahead an orders some LED spot lights. I thought I could wire them in addition to the headlights and maybe get away with driving with them on. No such luck...today I tried them and they appear too bright to oncoming traffic. Now I'm back to looking at other options. These are the lights I got:
It may be as easy as changing out bulbs but I would like them brighter. The bulbs they come with seem yellow in color. Someone on the page I linked mentioned they are "compatible to H1". Unfortunately for me I don't know if that means I can install a brighter H1 bulb? I saw someone mention that h1 bulbs wouldn't fit because they were too long. That was mentioned in this video:
I think this is the link to the manu page for the lights: 1999-2004
Can someone give me some guidance about what bulbs I can use in in my projector lights? Can I use any H1 bulb? If I get high lumens will it be brighter? What's a good range to get?
When I get to pulling the bulbs it looks like I will need to pull the battery to change the bulbs; I guess I can pull one battery at a time without any issues?
Yes, H1 bulbs, lumin 5 to 6k HID's. You need to remove battery and airbox on drivers-side. Nothing on passenger-side.
Called the parts store. They were no help with Lumens. Found a convenient chart on walmart's site that compares their different level of bulbs. This one is the next to the top as far as brightness. Anyone with experience with it?

The ultra is brighter than a cheaper bulb, I also tried the ZXE bulb...good light on the road...But nothing like the Trucklites I installed this Summer, crisp white light with outstanding cutoff. Also keep in mind that the higher end brighter bulbs have a short life. The package itself has that written on it, there's always a compromise.
To get the full benefit of a brighter halogen you'll need a harness as described above. You can make one yourself for much less if you can solder. Don't buy a cheap harness off fleabay, I did that for the wife's Subie and was very disappointed. Aluminum wire, thin gauge, etc.
I have the DDM HID kit for the last 3-4 years now, has it's quirks but very happy with light output. But if/when it fails I'll be making a harness and getting some 100 megaton Hellas so I can source spare bulbs on the road.
Thought he was asking for the brightest/whitest HID's, which are the 35w digital slims 5000k to 6000k.
My problem is deciphering all the info and I needed a quick "pretty good" solution right now to give me better lighting. Maybe when I have more time I'll go the harness route. I'll bet my headlights are 1500 lumen or something. My wife picked up the silverstar ultra h1's today and walmart will let you return them if they don't work. Although one had a blue tip and the other one clear. (What's the difference?)
'02-04 with 100/80 watt bulbs put out more usable light. 9008/H13 bulbs use tiny pins and make too much heat for higher wattage bulbs.
Those chineesy projectors are probably the worst light. The ones I've seen would never focus hi/low beams at the same time either. Lows aimed good and hi's were pointed at the ditch. I would get the '02-04 eagle eyes and get your $$$ back on the projectors.
We finally made our own. Bought new 05 headlights heated them up then popped them open. We then mounted projector lenses. We added 3 sets of halo's that we can turn on with our phones up to 50 yards away. Nice for early morning in the dark, and the LED's can run for hours and not drop voltage more than 0.2! We need bright lights because it seems cows always need birthing assistance in the middle of the night.
They do however harass the coyotes, but that's it!

we will have to agree to disagree.
the 05-07 headlights with the diode mod for the high beams are very, very good.
Low beam cutoff Switchback led halos white and yellow on mini h1 bixenon projectors. Quad FX-R on low beams on my r/t

My best suggestion is to return those headlights. I just had a customer with a charger showed up with the same brand projector headlights and they were really really bad. There's cheap aftermarket projector headlights and then there is high performance projector retrofits like these
