My truck has been modified to burn straight vegetable oil. Specifically used fryer oil from restaurants that many of us can get 'free'.
In a nutshell, the WVO (waste vegetable oil) is more viscous than diesel at room temp. When heated to about 160*F, WVO is about the same viscosity as diesel. I have a separate, redundant fuel system for WVO that uses coolant to heat the fuel. This includes a 2nd tank with heated fuel pick-up, heated fuel lines, 2nd pump/fuel press regulator, heated fuel filter, etc.
We start on diesel and switch to WVO after the engine warms up. Then, switch back to diesel and 'purge' all of the WVO from the engine before shutting the truck down.
Same power, mpg, etc as diesel. My truck has 230k on the high cholesterol diet and I have personally done dozens of conversions on 7.3/6.0's that cumulatively have way over a million veggie smile miles.
Very interesting. Some years ago I ran across vids online about that but wasn't sure if it was a hoax. I don't put a lot of miles on mine. About 5K a year so I'm not sure if it would be worth it on mine but I'm curious about how much does it cost?

ROI is probably 20-30k miles at current fuel prices. Most people end up driving more when the cost of fuel has been removed from the equation. Road trips are about 'how many gallons is that' instead of 'how much will all that diesel cost'.
We've gone on some epic road trips for under $100/week.
so current diesel in my area, raleigh nc, is 2.35 to 2.65 gallon and figuring 18 MPG for 25K miles come out to about $3500 for the deal. But it seem you still need a tank for diesel to start etc..
Is there a way you can fit another OEM fuel tank under the truck not sure what cab/bed combo you have but on my obs, granted they came with two fuel tanks, I installed a cab and chassis 38 gallon tank from an 07 f350 where the old one used to be and now I have a total fuel capacity of almost 60 gallons but in order to do that you will need to adapt the obs fuel tank selector and switch for it to work.

that sounds low to me, but how low???
That is really close.
The stock diesel tank and the entire factory fuel system remain intact. The only modification is the addition of check valves between the factory filter and the heads. I actually replace the skinny, kinked up steel fuel lines from filter to heads with 3/8" ptfe-lined SS braided hoses with JIC ends. In fact, I strive to make everything about my conversions is OEM or better quality. After more than 10yrs attempting to 'perfect' it, I may finally be getting close!! Lol.
For example, I use an F650 dash panel for VO system switches and fuel pressure/fuel level gauges. People who don't know these trucks often say they thought the VO system was STOCK. Even mechanics who work on my customers trucks often comment how clean they are. I go to great lengths to make sure what I do doesn't interfere with normal maintenance or even major repairs.
Jason, are you still doing these conversions for people? If so pm me some more info. I don't want to hijack this thread and derail it
Yes. I quit my real job (and took a 90% pay cut!) a few years ago so I could have custody of my boys. I've been doing conversions, cool 7.3 builds and flipping/parting trucks. It's like a hobby that 'almost' pays the bills. LOL
I started to link a couple VO system install threads I've posted down in the alt fuels section, but since PHOTOBUCKET SUCKS - I'm not going to bother... Want me to start a thread up here debunking the myths about VO?
Actually, you might do some business just putting together a PTFE 3/8" SS fuel line kit as you mentioned earlier. Sounds like a really nice upgrade from OEM once they finally leak. And with the new fittings, it's a serviceable connection.

VeggieGarage. Nice. Hate to say it, but the first thought that popped into my mind when I saw it was Sesame Street. Too many weekends with the grandson!
It didn't work for me using the new Win10 Edge browser (which has been having lots of trouble the past few months loading many websites correctly), but loads fine using Chrome or Firefox.
