Your truck will not be the same as what you remember, but in a good way. Especially after you get the 4.30 gears in it...

Awesome! I've always wondered how our trucks would do with 4.30 gears.

@Toreador_Diesel may steer you away from the 4.30's depending on tire size.

I believe he has a thread on how he went from 3.73's to 4.30 to 4.10's. Keep in mind the Diesel's don't have the rpm range like a gasser does.

I went from 3.73 to 4.10, initially I regretted not going to 4.30 but since I've been driving it the 4.10's are/seem like the sweet spot. The RPMS are higher at hwy speeds than they were with the 3.73's and when climbing is easy to hit 3000 rpm's. It definitely does tows better with the 4.10's than it did with the 3.73's.

The one variable that is important to consider is elevation or lack of it. Elevation should play a big role when considering gears, long steep climbs, that can include multiple switchbacks then combine that with less oxygen, it will put significant demands on your equipment. We've all been towing and you have that idiot doing 5 mph under the speed limit...just because and you can't pass and are struggling to stay in the power band. I've noticed the deeper gears help in this situation too.
I'm at 7000' and tow through high mountain passes upwards of 12.000'. The 4.10's seem to be deep enough for this elevation. If you're a flatlander, I would think 4.10's would be plenty deep, unless you're towing exceptionally heavy. My 2 cents.

I'm thinking u are going to need some tall tires to go with the tall gears!
4.30 would be good for your weekend warrior. I had a set of 4.27 in my 63 Falcon. Turn that 289 up to 7000 RPM and dream of top end HP! It never really sounded good up there.
You would think it was a 12 sec car, 3/4 cam, 11.5 compression,but noooo it was a Ford!
That was only good for the bottom of the 13! (Oh yea 351CJ small block C6 trans with factory hi stall TQ) but I digress.

Based on the pic of his truck, he may have 37's on his rig which would fit the 4.30's to a T. But they do look like they could be 35's, in which case the 4.10 would give back the closest OEM RPM range.

I was towing a toyhauler up a very steep slow mountain road 12 miles in the cascade mountains when I blew the transmission. 3.73 and larger tires didn't keep the rpms high enough to flow enough atf through my 6.0 cooler and it quickly overhead and blew the front seal. I do appreciate the advice but I do not drive the truck on the highway as much as most. Most of my trips with the truck are towing in the mountains to take the family camping or go hunting. From what I was told by Brian @bts and others (differential mechs ) 4.30's and 37" tires would put me back to (close) stock final gear ratio and that's what they recommend, So that's what I decided to go with. Brian set the valve body to run that gear ratio and 37" tires. Even if wanted to change to another gear my valve body would need to be adjusted. Sadly after $5600 in a new custom transmission that isn't going to happen anytime soon. I was going to add a few in of lift and larger tires so I was going to go with 4.56's but came to my senses after I bought my last set of tires hahaha

Sorry to tell you, but that transmission won't bolt up to your truck

But the good news is I can help you out there. I am willing to swap you a perfectly used 202k stock 4R100 for your BTS, even up! You don't even have to add cash! LOL!

But seriously, looks good! What torque converter did you get?

It was an expensive lesson to learn, so I paid forward for no one would make the same mistake.

Diesel
37's = 4.30
35's = 4.10

V10 same thing but folks usually go one step numerically higher (4.56 instead of 4.30) for some extra umph.

You were without yours for a month, I've been without my 6.0 Excursion for almost 6 months thanks to the laziest transmission shop in America.

Glad you have yours back and will be able to enjoy it soon!
