So a couple weeks back I'm on expressway home and I look down and and temp guage is pegged out overheating I immediately pulled off and shut it down and towed to a buudy of mine's shop he flushed it filled it up w anitfreeze and checked for leaks and couldn't find one. I drove it for about a week and got out to for a quick stop , Ex parked on a slight decline and came out to prolly half gallon of coolant on the ground..I limped it to my buddies shop as it was not running hot .. he has checked it out but can't find any leaks, even after having it run 30 or so minutes.. so WE are stumped
anyone have any ideas ??
Your radiator cap is probably not pressurizing the system enough. Is it a few years old or more? I'm assuming that you're not using a coolant system pressure tester, as the leak would probably be easier to spot.
I am thinking it is the max A/C valve over the passenger side valve cover. When my original went out, it leaked all over every time we turned it to max A/C on the dash. Internal failure.
I would also suggest getting another coolant bottle cap. Even if he tested the system that does not necessarily mean that he tested the cap. These OEM caps have been known to fail as mine did. Plus they are only about $5.00
The one I got is the Stant (10238) Degas Bottle cap
