In '04 the Nissan Titan came out with a stamped steel differential cover. By '07 Nissan had switched over to a finned aluminum cover. I don't think the capacity changed but they did change the viscosity from 80w-90 to 75w-140 (same as the Superduty). Nissan ended up replacing a lot of '04-'06 axles.
I don't doubt that more capacity is beneficial. I wouldn't mind having a drain plug on my differential cover.
With respect to the oil pan pictures that started this thread, I would prefer a finned cover and having to insert/tighten the middle bolt along the bottom row through the drain plug doesn't look like any fun to me.

I am as well but as of right now I don't plan on towing any heavy loads in the near future. Or at least to match that 20k pound load where I saw oil temps in the 240's.
