Bigger oil pan

Bought Absolute Performance XXL oil pan. Will hold 16qts and drains from the bottom. Supposedly will lower oil temps 10-15 degrees. Will be putting on this week.

I don't think I would want a drain from the bottom pan. Especially not since it hangs down even lower than OEM. I say this mainly because I put a Fumoto drain valve in all my cars.

The only aftermarket pans I'm familiar with are from PML and they are cast aluminum. So no welded joints.

It would be interesting to see if creating a pan with a slight decline towards the drain plug would work

This oil pan doesn't hang lower than the OEM pan. And all the other super duty's used to drain from the bottom so I don't see how that would be a problem.

How are they getting the increased volume in the pan if it isn't hanging lower?

I wouldn't want it draining from the bottom only because I put a Fumoto drain valve on it.

Don't know, the place I bought it from told me it didn't. I'll take measurements from the ground to the bottom of the OEM one and then remeasure with the new pan on.

I don't think increasing the oil capacity only by 3 quarts and lowering the operation temperature 10-15 degrees would be worth the expense.

I think it is a nice-looking pan with very nice welds. However, I don't understand the benefit...nobody is experiencing oil overheating with the 6.7L, right? 13 quarts is already more capacity than the Duramax and Cummins.

towing 20k pounds not to long ago in the TX heat I had oil temps up to 240-245. So lowering it to 230-235 in the same condition I think it's worth it. More of a peace of mind deal.

been talking to this guy in the 6.7 powerstroke Facebook group and he's seen a 15 degree drop when he put his XXL pan on. They sell for 359 but I bought 4 so got them for 289. Not a bad deal.

Its a really nice looking piece! I cant imagine adding 3 qt's of oil is a bad thing regardless....especially in the area of the country you live in.

I like the idea of more oil, especially since 1/3 plus of my miles is towing 17K+

But, having done larger oil pans & difff covers and such over the years on trucks (and oil pan on the bike) I don't believe the temp drop. Once oil gets to 240 all the oil is going to get to 240, just slightly longer.

As to finned diff covers, I did not do a pre cover test for obvious reasons, but when I put a finned cover on my D-max, I added the temp sensor. Adding 1 gallon of capacity was my goal.
On some of the longer hills we have on the east coast I could watch the diff temp go from an average of 130-140 to upwards of 180+.
But on the down hill sides the temps dropped right away back down to normal temps.

Maybe the fins helped, maybe the increeased capacity (about 2 quarts to 6 quarts) or maybe it was the synthetic fluid.

That oil pan the OP showed looks real nice, except for the bottom drain. I have enough trouble not splashing oil on my driveway

My thinking is that the temp is really regulated by the oil cooler, which is thermostatically controlled. If the cooler cannot control oil temp, than the hot oil would start heating the coolant, leading to overheating. Maybe a coupe of extra quarts would prolong that from happening.
